My Christmas wish for “Sevrin”

Donation protected
On Monday, 11-26- 2018, my nephew, Sevrin Verzosa, who just turned five years old, became very ill and was sent to the Children’s Hospital in Knoxville, Tennessee. We need your help to get through this tragic situation.

During the Thanksgiving holiday, our families came together. We enjoyed each other’s company and gave thanks for all the blessings we received for the year.

Sevrin had been running a fever on and off for a couple of days, and his parents--my cousin, Dustin, and his wife, Kandace--were hesitant to come to the cabin to celebrate Thanksgiving.

When his parents told him that he could not go to the Thanksgiving reunion, Sevrin cried.  He wanted to see his great-grandma, "Lola”, and his grandma who both had traveled up from Charleston, South Carolina.  So, his parents made a deal: they could only go if his fever broke and he felt better.

Fortunately, his fever broke, and he was able to see everyone and participate in family photos. During his visit, however, his fever returned, and he became lethargic and developed a bad body rash.  He was taken to the emergency room and was diagnosed with Roseola, a childhood disease that is common with children his age and younger. Signs and symptoms include fever for 3-5 days and a rash that breaks out all over the body--Sevrin's exact symptoms. They sent him home to rest and to return to the ER if the fever persisted.

Unfortunately, his fever continued, and he started to cough and complain of pain on his left side. On Monday, the 26th of November, Sevrin's parents took him to his pediatrician and had his x-rays taken.  The doctor told them to immediately go to the children’s hospital to be evaluated and admitted.

He was diagnosed with pneumonia, strep, and RSV with pleural effusion. He had to have a chest tube put in his left lung, which pulled out 720mL of fluid. He was then admitted to Pediatric ICU.

Our cousin Dustin and his wife,  Kandace, who is 8 months pregnant, are scared, worried, and shocked about how deathly ill their son is.

Sevrin's life is in serious danger. The first 48 hours were very difficult; Sevrin was gasping for air, and his fever reached 105 degrees.

With his parents' permission, he was intubated and put on a ventilator to help him breathe.

Dustin’s employer was very generous and gave him a week off with pay so he could be with his family.  With a sick child and another one on the way, he has to return to work very soon so that he can continue to provide for his family.

We want to help our cousin and his family by raising $8,000 for any medical bills.  With this, they can focus on what’s important: saving their child’s life. The doctor expects Sevrin to be in hospital for several weeks, but hopefully, with your help, he’ll be home for Christmas!!

While your prayers are highly appreciated, any amount received will be a blessing!

Please help us by sharing this to all your friends and family.

Let’s give Sevrin a Christmas to remember.

Thank you and God bless!!
