SES 2018 8th Grade Moaning Caverns

Welcome to our first fundraising effort for the Moaning Caverns field trip.  GoFundMe is an easy way for us to begin raising money for this amazing trip. If you are able to, please donate to our fund online, or send in cash/check donations written to Sonora Elementary school, c/o Alia Katz.

The Moaning Caverns Field trip will provide my 91, Sonora Elementary, 8th-grade Integrated Science students a unique and fun learning experience set in an unusual environment. This field trip will also help me to teach the required NGSS standards for the 8th grade.  We will cover information in earth, biological, and physical sciences.

We've scheduled our field trip for Early November.  Please contact Mrs. Katz for details.  

Moaning Caverns is a site of geological interest, located in the town of Vallecito, CA.  The site provides discounted field trips for public school groups. I will have 91 students, three co-teachers,  and I will need at least three chaperones.   The cost for each of the attractions are as follows:

Walking tour- $ 6.50  (per student) x 91=      $  591.50                                                                                          
                                $11      (per adult)       x 6    =      $     66. 00


Fossil  mining $ 7.99 each                   x 91 =        $  727.09   
( students each receive one fossil bag and keep all finds)

Zip line $ 31 per student                  x 91    =       $2,821.00

Climbing wall   $ 3.50 per student x 91=       $   318.50


I will also have to pay for transportation cost.
2 Busses will be needed (two separate trips with 45-46 students each)

Students will learn about the age of Earth and processes that occur over long periods of time in the Moaning Cavern.
