Service Dog: Regaining Independence
Donation protected
Hello, friends and family!
I've never done anything like this before, but I believe that this is a perfect opportunity to try it out.
After thinking long and hard about this for over a year and discussing pros and cons with my family, I have decided to pursue the goal of training a puppy to hopefully become a psychiatric and medical alert/response dog for myself. This would be life-changing for me. It would allow me to become more independent and be able to worry less about fainting spells and/or panic attacks and extreme anxiety.
To some, this might come as a bit of shock, as I do not appear to be sick or struggling mentally/physically. However, these are battles I've struggled with for over six years. While I have tried many other treatment options and have definitely improved in some areas, I still have several moments of weakness that can be debilitating.
As someone who loves animals and went into pursuing a degree in psychology for animal training purposes, I believe that this step will be what will truly help me to feel more independent and safe, especially while at school.
I plan to purchase a service dog prospect in May and he/she will be moving into an apartment with me next year at school. While I'm sure it will be a difficult adjustment, I am looking forward to our future as a service dog team. Any donations would be greatly appreciated. It is support from friends and family that reminds me to keep moving forward
Thank you so much.
