Seriah’s Back Surgery and Recovery

Seriah has been diagnosed with advanced scoliosis which has become extemely aggressive over the last few months. A year ago she was diagnosed with a spine curvature of 45%. A year later and after wearing a back brace for months, following Dr. protocols and with the pain increasing, her spine still worsened to 75%. Her Dr. was finally in agreement that surgery is necessary but a slow process in dealing with insurances and what is in network and what isn’t.  In just 30 days from that visit, she couldn’t handle the pain and constant crying pushed us to take her to the emergency room. That short amount of time was enough for it to be at 85%. She was in the hospital for several days and finally send home with medication to get by until surgery which is scheduled for December 10th. She will remain in the hospital for several days post surgery for initial recovery. Once allowed to come home, will need to be with her for at least another week to help her recover. She is expected to then be home schooled and unable to return back to school for an estimated 6 weeks after that as long as everything goes smooth. The below pictures are from last years 45% and the following year (August) at 75%. It is currently worse than 85%. I don’t have the current MRI or hospital X-Rays available at this moment of posting. 

The surgery, hospital stay, and Dr. costs were explained to be $289,000. My insurance requires me to be responsible for 10%, but after deductibles are met I have a max out of pocket to make it lower. They offered to give 30% off if we could pay in full within 30 days of the bill date, however with Christmas and everything else going on at the same time, I can’t come close to paying that total outright.
