Merry Christmas Friends and Family!
I am sure this email has arrived in your inbox when you probably barely have the time to think….. You are probably inundated with last minute shopping…. grocery lists, gift giving check list, the decision to brave the mall….ugh. This is the norm for most of us. So consumed with making this the best Christmas ever for our children and grand babies.
As we all know, as much as we curse the hustle and bustle and the extra spending, the second guessing if that gift is the perfect one, we know this is not the case for everyone. This is not the priority for our friends Nicole & Isaac.
Right now they are thinking about their beautiful daughter Olivia, who will be turning 3 years old in January and is hoping to be big enough and strong enough to get on the kidney transplant list in 2017. She is currently on life support in the form of 12-14 hours of dialysis daily and has been since she was one month old. She is incredibly sick on the inside; this disease has impacted many of her organs. Nicole and Isaac were recently told that her needs are so complex, that she is only able to receive a cadaver kidney from a child. This has been heartbreaking news for them.
As Olivia grows and develops, her personality has become more present…..she is funny, smart, very perceptive and has some serious sass. She has a smile and laughter that can light up a room. This is what keeps her parents strong.
Nicole was very humbled with the offer of a Go FundMe page and assured me they are getting by; it was only with insistence that they have agreed. They recently sold their home and moved out of town to be closer to family, Nicole had to leave her job to provide 24/7 care to Olivia and Isaac has started a new job. This was a very difficult decision for Nicole and Isaac to allow us to ask for your help. No amount is too small.
Nicole and Isaac are taking one day at a time trying to have as much fun as possible while being fully aware that there will be many more hospitals visits and admissions in the very near future (January 9th Olivia will be admitted to Sick Kids Toronto for testing). There will be gas, parking, meals, hotel stays and the bills at home that come whether you are there or not. As we hug our babies, family and friends over the holidays and winter months ahead, the worst we have to deal with is a bad cough or a runny nose, maybe even the flu. So much of her little life has been spent in McMaster Sick Kids Hospital. This is their life. This has been their life since this beautiful child was born. This could have been your child, niece, nephew or grandbaby. But it is not. It is Nicole, Isaac and Olivia’s life.
You can make a difference and I am asking you from the bottom of my heart to help.
