Send Sam back to the Royal Winnipeg Ballet School

Update:

Sam completed the Summer Intensive and though he was not selected for the full time program as he had hoped he has been encouraged to come back next summer and try again.

This means auditioning again this fall and lots of fundraising, campaigning and work to do.

Sam is now 12 years old and has grown up so much in his summer away.  He will be taking 2 Balket classes and Lyrical/Jazz in Kamloops as well as playing his last year as goalie with KMHA as he has decided Dance truly is his dream and his passion.

We hope that you will continue to support and follow Sam on his journey.  Thank you to all of you who have helped get him this far.

Cheers.

Sam is a stubbornly hard working and determined little boy.  When faced with having to choose only one extra curricular activity (loving both hockey and dance) he mowed lawns, shovelled snow and collected bottle returns to earn enough money to do both.  He raised enough to pay for his hockey fees, team, fees and tournaments.  That is impressive for a then 10 year old boy.

Now at 11,  Sam was encouraged by one of his dance instructors to audition for the Royal Winnipeg Ballet.  A family friend and his grandpa took him to the audition in Kelowna.

Out of many students who auditioned all over Canada, Sam was invited to the Summer Program.  He was given a grant by RWB to cover part of the tuition fees.

This is an incredible opportunity for Sam, the Summer Program acts as an audition for the Professional Program September to June.

Sam lives with his twin brother and sister and his mom.  It is not financially feasible for his family to support this endeavour, nor will Sam be able to raise enough money continuing to work as he does doing yard work and bottle collection.

Sam is very deserving of this experience and the chance to join the Professional Program.

He takes 2 Ballet classes and one Hip Hop class per week as well as Assistant Teaching often for his mother's Dance Classes.  He has formerly also studied Acro, Jazz and participated in a Spring and Summer of Circus Camp.

Registration needs to be submitted by February with $200 down or 50% of total owning.  Tuition and Residence combined total $2,991 (this is minus the Grant).  We still have travel expenses on top of this as we live in Kamloops, British Columbia and will be travelling to Winnipeg, Manitoba. The remaining balance is due in May. Travel expenses needed in time to book flights, hotels or whatever else may be required.  It is yet undecided whether we will fly or drive.  This will depend how much we can raise.

Sam has applied for Jumpstart funding through Canadian Tire and continues to search and apply for funding options.
