Michelle's Nursing Dream

Donation protected
5 years ago Michelle lost the love of her life, her son Taylor, to cancer just a week before what would have been his 12th birthday.

Taylor battled his illness with a steadfast spirit and determination, and in total spent over a year and a half of his life in hospitals. During this time, Michelle acted as not only his mother but also his nurse and caregiver, rarely away from her son’s side.

Taylor’s last request for Michelle was for her to promise him she would be okay. She is single, and as she looks to find a meaningful purpose to honor Taylor’s life, she has recently decided to enter nursing school.

After Taylor’s death, Michelle often told me that she wished someone truly understood what it was like to be in her shoes, but “unless you have lost a child after such a sustained fight, you are not in this ‘club’ that no one ever wants to be in”.

6 months following Taylor’s death, Michelle lost her father to cancer as well.

Michelle and Taylor had an amazing connection, and she taught him to always give to others. The medical costs to battle a child’s grave illness are mind-boggling. Even with insurance coverage, Michelle does not yet have the funds needed in order to register for classes. In recognition of their giving spirit, it is my goal to raise donations to allow Michelle to begin nursing school - and fulfill the dream that she knows Taylor would be so proud of.

Michelle continues to miss Taylor deeply and struggles daily to find her way in a world without his infectious smile and huge heart. She is a true believer in unconditional love and asks her friends to do something, however small, on a daily basis that will brighten someone else’s day - a random act of kindness and honor to Taylor, who was always spreading joy.

I am asking my friends, family, colleagues and others to donate what you can to assist me in this random act for Michelle. I have no doubt she’ll make a compassionate and dedicated nurse, and want nothing more than to aid her in fulfilling her answer to her son that she would be okay. Thank you so much and please share with your friends and family~
