Send Lila to University

Donation protected
In April 2018, I went on a secret trip to Yemen along with my mom. We spent 5 days on the mainland and were very interested to see with our own eyes what is really happening in Yemen. We crossed overland from Oman and met our fixer who took us on a two day drive to   Hadhramaut and Seiyun. Then we spent two days exploring near Seiyun in surrounding villages and the next day we drove another full day and returned to the border with Oman.

In these five days we experienced and saw and learned many miraculous things. One of which was about the situation in Yemen and how badly the people are being affected who live in the Northern part of Yemen, especially in Sana'a the Capitol city.

Our fixer has three daughters and he does not wish them to follow traditions and get married at a young age. Instead, the three girls want to study in University and have a career. One dreams of being a pilot, another, Lila, is currently dreaming of being a Geologist and a scientist. Lila is now 19 years old and is trying to go to the University of Sana'a, however the public school is very expensive for a normal family to afford. Lila plans to study the Earth and the only way for her to pursue her dreams is for us to take action and help!

Because of this, I have started this fundraiser page! Her University fees are $950 per year. Her first year fees are due in just one week!

Lila Kais Ahmed the 19 years old girl living in Sana'a in Yemen. She is the first daughter for Kais and his wife, whom I met in my travels to Yemen. He was my guide and without him I surely would have faced danger.

Lila is a brilliant student, as most of the Girls in Yemen are.  It's well known that the Yemeni girls are facing education duties and home duties such as cooking and cleaning the house on top of their studies. This makes many of the girls in Yemen busy full time between family responsibilities and their desire to learn and educate themselves.  The girls typically get extremely good Marks and grades in the Exams, in fact, usually better than boys! The boys have no responsibilities towards the family in regards to cooking and cleaning and in fact have only education as a duty. But still their exam marks and grades are not as good as the Yemeni girls!

Lila she has been living and studying in the situation of the war which has existed for the past 4 years, and even still today.  Sanaa, although it is the Capitol city of Yemen, has been without electricity for 4 years and Lila and her family often face airstrikes and need to seek shelter inside their homes during the attacks.

Despite the struggles of the country, she has never given up her dream to be a Geologist and continuing her education. Some of her classmates have already gotten married and gave up their studies but she is encouraging herself and her family that she wants to continue her education and become a scientist.

She is dreaming to be Geologist if she is lucky she might be registered in the University of Sana'a.

But it's difficult because her father cannot afford the university fees.

He used to work in tourism which stopped back in March, 2015 when the war started against Yemen.

Tourism used to be the only income of her father. Without tourists coming to the country, he is unable to afford the fees for his daughters continuing education.

I am a strong believer in supporting women studies and I can think of no family more deserving than this one. While I visited Yemen, I met many women as they cared for me and treated me as if I was one of their family members. I saw many women and children begging on the streets for food and money because their husbands and family had been killed in the war against the terrorists. I witnessed first hand how bad the situation is and how impossible it is for families to focus on school and studies when they are unsafe and struggling from the chaos happening in their home country. I also witnessed hope among the people and a desire to continue on with their lives and strive.

If you can help donate even a little bit of money I know this family will be more than thankful. Because of the situation in Yemen it is nearly impossible to send the money so I will be taking full responsibility and send the cash to them via Western Union. I will cover all the transfer fees myself and send 100% of the money for the donations to Lila for her education.

*The money is sent via Money Gram to Lila’s father.

*The money pays for Lila’s tuition fees. $950 per year for her to study at the University of Sana’a.

Edit: The first years payment has been paid by our wonderful donors so far! Although we didn’t quite raise the entire fees, myself and my mother collaborated and sent the money to Lila today! She goes to the University tomorrow to enroll! With the first year mostly covered we still have at least 3 more years of Uni to cover! Thank you for continuing to share this link and help spread the word!
