My name is Hanna Miller and I'm in 8th grade at Richfield Middle School. My partner Molly and I made a website this year for National History Day. NHD is an annual contest where students from across America make projects and compete. You start at your own school, then the top projects from each of the 5 categories go to Regionals, then to State. The farthest you can go is Nationals, which my partner and I made! Nationals is June 9-13, in Washington D.C.
We are one of two projects from our school to go this year! Last year one project went. The other project this year is one of my best friends, so we are all excited to go together.
The downside is how much money it will cost. We have to pay for airline, food, and where we are staying. All together, it would cost about two thousand dollars. My mom is taking off of work to go with me.
There are 5 - $400 scholarships you can apply for from the Wisconsin Historical Society to help with the cost. I did apply but we are still waiting to see if I received one. There are about 36 kids from Wisconsin going. Richfield Middle School is also making a donation to each of the girls going to help out.
This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for me. I love learning about the past and making the website with my friends was really fun. We got to share ideas and make each others better. I am going, but I don't want to inconvenience my parents by having them spend so much money on this.
If you could donate even a couple dollars, I would appreciate it so much. This event is very important to me and my friend and we are so excited. I didn't even think we would make it to state and now we are heading to Nationals! Any amount would be awesome! We are leaving on June 9, so we only have about 5-6 weeks to raise the money.
