Send CFET's Youth to RIC 2017

Tax deductible
CFET's Youth Farming program is an intensive job-training program, which uses urban gardening, cooking, and entrepreneurship as a vehicle to develop leadership capabilities among Camden City teens.
Through this program young people are employed to work in our urban gardens and orchards, manage our Farmer’s Market, and develop innovative value-added food products like their hot sauce – KAPOW!

CFET's four Youth Leaders are composed of program alumni who work to educate and energize their peers around the many social, environmental and economic issues affecting their City Invincible. During the summer, our Youth Leaders lead bi weekly workshops which illicit peer to peer discussions and exploration of complex topics such as food access, environmental justice and racial discrimination.

As the Youth Leaders of CFET we asking for your support to help fund our trip to Greensboro, NC so we can attend the annual Rooted in Community Youth Leadership Summit.

RIC is a national grassroots network that empowers young people to take leadership in our communities. RIC brings together youth and adults who are committed to fostering healthy communities and food justice through urban and rural agriculture, community gardening, food security, and related environmental justice work.

Through attending the RIC Conference, our youth will have the opportunity to connect with other young leaders like them, where they can acknowledge their shared experiences and struggles, and build community to address and change the injustices in our food system.

In 2017 Rooted in Community Youth Summit is warmly descending into the South to celebrate and learn from
the legacy of resistance and resilience in Greensboro, NC, and the surrounding areas.

Known for it’s role in sparking the sit-in movement in, when four North Carolina A&T University students
walked into a Woolworth’s and sat at the counter demanding service and equity on February 1, 1960.
Greensboro has deep roots in advocating for justice and equality. Going further back Greensboro served as a point on the Underground Railroad, strengthened by the Quaker presence locally.

While we are there, we will visit local farms and food justice organizations and learn the history of Greensboro's struggles and activism.

The money we are raising through this GoFundMe campaign will pay for the conference registration fees ($200 per person) and our travel expances for the trip. We are a group of 3 youth and 2 adults.
