Selwa's journey for health is an inspiring example of faith, love and persistence. She was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis at the age of three, and at that time, the life expectancy was less than 7 years. Every birthday was a milestone, and along the way, she has broken every barrier. More importantly, she has never let her health stand in the way.
Baylor University graduate – check.

All of this done with a smile on her face and God shining through her heart. A stranger would never know her struggle. You would not realize that she spent over 5 hours a day doing treatments, she could not remember the last night she had a full night rest, and there were many days the pain was so much that she could not get out of bed. She was literally fighting for every breath, which is something the majority of us take for granted every day.
Each year, she would see her lung function decline, but she did not let that stop her from achieving what makes her happy. Doctors would see her low pulmonary functions and question how she was active and not bed ridden. She always had one answer – “It’s God – he is carrying me through.” She continued to focus on her faith, her amazing husband, Scott, and children Isabella (10) and Mitch (6). She also found her passion with yoga. She began training with 28% lung functions, became a certified yoga instructor and inspires other by sharing her practice.
In June, Selwa received the miracle she had been waiting for. An angel donor gave her the perfect lungs that so many had been praying for, and we now can add double lung transplant recipient to the list.
Because of your prayers, her surgeons, and her ‘never quit’ attitude her body is healing in record speed. She left the hospital in 12 days for home recovery. Like every stage of her life, there are struggles, but she and Scott tackle each one head on. She inspired her transplant nurses and doctors who have nicknamed her “Yogi” and believe her yoga practice is a main driver in her remarkable healing.
Selwa and Scott know that God carried them through this time and this was a direct result of your prayers. We want to continue to support their family by raising money to help with their medical expenses. Their story has inspired us all to embrace each day, take time to breathe and appreciate the small things, love one another more, and make the best of every situation. With our help, we can give them peace of mind so they can focus on the long road of recovery, healing and family.
