Crowdfunding a Crowdfunding Book

Donation protected
I am raising money to fund the second edition of my book, The JOBS Act: Crowdfunding for Small Businesses and Startups. Published by Apress in paperback on October 2, 2012, mine was the first JOBS Act crowdfunding book published. Now it's time for an update. Apress will publish the second edition in October, 2016, as soon as I finish writing it. This is where you come in....

A lot has happened since the first book was published, and I intend to provide a through update.  I will create a series of blogs and websites with infographics, videos, Title III campaigns and other material. We will have the most complete and comprehensive information on the subject.

In addition to writing the first book on the JOBS Act and crowdfunding, I am one of the people who helped crowdfunding get started. My background is in finance (MBA) and economics (MA), both from the University of Chicago.

This campaign will insure that I can finish the second edition in the time allotted, in a complete and comprehensive manner. I will use several new techniques to write the book quickly.  The book will be published in October, 2016. That's three months.

By helping this book get published, you will insure that objective, honest information on crowdfunding comes from an independent, unaffiliated source. This is important since we are already seeing biased, inaccurate information on crowdfunding being promoted by greedy, unscrupulous lawyers and others. (On June 17, 2015, the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit recognized me as a "Friend of the Court" in an action that state securities regulators brought to try to slow down crowdfunding. My comments helped convince the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to allow crowdfunding sooner rather than later. See:

In the meantime, I need money to complete the book. I will have to pay a number of expenses, from cell phone bills, to copies of research documents (yes, some people still actually use paper hard copies...) to expenses related to the creation of specilized graphics, to data on small business financing and crowdfunding. And, of course, McDonald's (gotta eat...)

And, no, I have not asked Oprah. She's busy.

The funding will help make sure this project gets completed in a timely manner, Anything will help, and I'll use every dollar even if we don't reach our entire goal.

The Impact

Crowdfunding has the potential to change everything. We have seen the potential impact in communities of color.

Part of what I think is needed, based on my experience, is more objective and independent information. Unfortunately, the lawyers have tried to dominate access to JOBS Act crowdfunding. The second edition will provide information in plain language. Your contribution will make a difference:

We have a successful track record with projects like this. We have been researching the JOBS Act for some time now, so we have a lot of the information we need to complete the update already.

Risks & Challenges

Are there any risks and obstacles I may face on the way to achieving our goal? Yes....

I may not be able to finish on time.
But, I already have most of the material I need,

Other Ways You Can Help

Some people just can't contribute, but that doesn't mean you can't help:

Tweet! Like on Facebook. Get the word out and make some noise!

And that's all there is to it.
