Secondary breast cancer will not beat us.

Sharons Story: Myself and family are trying to raise some money for my beautiful mother. My mother is 48 with 3 children myself being the oldest 26 then my 2 brothers 17 & 18. My mother was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2017 I remember the exact moment the doctor told us and she said just give us 1 year of your life and you will be fully fit and healthy, my mother is not the first person in our family to be affected by this but my grandmother also had breast cancer at 50 who is still here thankfully and my dear uncle who had pancreatic cancer which unfortunately he passed away its been extremely difficult and hard time but how my mother has taken this all on has really amazed myself and all our family and friends how she have just got on with her life and even after her mastectomy not even 30 minutes after being brought back onto the ward she was standing and putting her lippy on! After 6 months chemotherapy and mastectomy we were told she was cancer free in 2018 the total relief we felt! Finally we got back to some sort of normality when my mum began to feel shoulder pain which she kept putting down to a pulled muscle after a week or two she finally gave in and went to the gp who at first also thought muscular but as weeks went by nothing improved she was then referred back to the hospital where a xray was done and showed something on her chest after that things took a turn for the worst as a mri was done which showed unfortunately the cancer wasn't gone but now grade 4 secondary breast cancer in the bones. I remember my mother's appointment and sitting there and physically seeing the mri where the cancer was really hit home I felt a lump in my throat and I just wanted to cry it had spread to skull ribs pelvis shoulder and spine, once home my mother had text me thanking me for being there and wanted to check I was OK even after just being told they cannot cure her cancer she wasn't concerned about herself but how I was. Once again she has faced this with the same determination as before to get through it but unfortunately this time she cannot beat it but she is coping we all are the best we can. My cousin has suggested doing a fundraising event to raise some money so that we can get her garden sorted and install a summer house so that she can have a hot tub which she can use when she wants to, irregardless of the weather (it rains a lot in Wales) which will help alleviate the pain in her back and pelvis from the cancer. It isn’t much but it will make my mother's life a bit easier and something to enjoy, if there are any funds left over she has said she would like to try and go away for a few days with her grandchildren but that's all dependent on the pain she's feeling as at the moment it's to much to even be able to just go shopping or even sit in the car for to long of a period. The plan is to to the 3 Welsh Peaks challenge more information on this is to follow and il keep updating this page as and when new information arises if you would like to join in to help raise money then please let me know. My Mother was a single parent raising me and my two brothers and she hasn’t had an easy life and unfortunately has had to give up work due to her poor health but if we can help make some special memories which my brothers and I can hold on to and share with the rest of the family it would mean so much to my mother and ourselves. Thank you for reading our story and if anyone would also like to join to raise more funds feel free to get in touch, the challenge is being set up by Liam our lovely cousin which will help with any questions you have in regards to the three peaks! (times are subject to change) the money we raise will be used towards family trips and making lasting memories for the special time we do have together. My mother has single-handedly brought me and my brothers up and has always tried her best for us and I want to give back to her and say thank you for being the bravest strongest woman I know my inspiration.
