Seal Rescue Ireland Vehicle Appeal!
Seal Rescue Ireland is a completely volunteer run rescue centre for both Harbour & Grey seals that are found in distress from around the entire coast of Ireland. Seals that are injured, sick or orphaned - often due to human activity - are rescued and admitted to the sanctuary for rehabilitation, which is a costly job with high fish bills and veterinary costs along with other huge overheads such as medications, water, electrics and supplies.
The aim for every animal in care is to get them fit and healthy as quickly as possible so that they can be released back into their natural habitat. No seals are kept permanently at the sanctuary - we're a hospital for seals, not a zoo.
The rescue centre has been through some very difficult times, markedly last year when we had to relocate from Dingle to Courtown after the sanctuary was destroyed in storms. Sadly the borrowed vehicle which we were so kindly allowed to use broke down many months ago and ever since we were relying on the generosity of members of the public to assist with seal rescues and transport to the rescue centre. As helpful and wonderful as this has been, in the long run it is not efficient or practical as a rescue centre to not have our own vehicle, even for tasks such as collecting fish and bringing seals in to the vet clinic are extremely challenging with no van!
We need a "Seal-Mobile"! We are desperate for an ambulance to be used for the safe transportation of seals during rescues and releases nationwide; to carry essential rescue equipment; journeys to the veterinary clinic for special treatments, surgery and X-Rays; for the collection of fish supplies for the seals and other miscellaneous goods for the sanctuary.
Please help us raise the much needed funding urgently so that the we can obtain a reliable rescue vehicle before the busy summer pupping season begins!
