Sea-Doo SPARK Rental Accident

On July 13, 2019 some friends invited me to rent out a Sea-Doo. I don't know much about water sports or equipment but they said it would be a lot of fun and it was only $80. I didn't know the water very well and while we were riding my friends went a bit ahead. I tried to follow them but of course something had to go wrong and turns out there is a sharp rock underwater in the area that no one had previously told me about. I hit it and went flying out of the Sea-Doo. There are approximately $2000 dollars in damages and, even though it was a complete accident, I am expected to cover the damages. I have to replace the bottom half of it. The rental services have contacted me today (July 14) and price in currently $2264.99. I appreciate any help as I will be attending school in the Fall and money is tight. Thank you.
