As you have probably heard on the local and national news, the town of Paradise, CA has essentially been destroyed in the first explosive hours of the Camp Fire in Northern California on November 8th. A Google search of the topic will provide exhaustive details if needed.

My small business of over 10 years, is directly impacted as SDMIdeas was located in Paradise, the SDMIdeas shop is  completely destroyed. Steps are already underway to restore this assembly capability but there will undoubtedly be short term challenges in recovery.

We will be working directly with all of our customers on their individual production needs to minimize the impact of this tragedy on their business needs. Please bear with us as we work through the details of these recovery efforts. Don’t hesitate to contact us directly for any questions or concerns. www.sdmideas.com

We always value our customers and strive to meet their business production needs. That customer-oriented focus of our business will not change despite the very challenging nature of our current situation.

On a personal note Myself and Leah, my wife (pregnant with our first child) were able to safely escape from the inferno in Paradise despite extremely harrowing conditions. We have suffered a great loss but are committed to recover and rebuild our lives, our home and the business.

Your concern and support throughout this process are highly valued by us all. We are only here due to the amazing support we have received from family and friends.

We are starting this go fund me effort to raise funds to reequip SDMIdeas with the equipment necessary to restore assembly capabilities. Previously SDMIdeas has been fortunate to be able to buy used equipment in unknown condition at a great bargain, but that has required effort to restore the equipment to working condition. To get back to normal as soon as possible we may not have the luxury to spend too much extra time on restoring old or unknown equipment. Ideally SDMIdeas could reequip with working equipment to get productive ASAP. We have been so blessed in the past and are thankful for all help in any form.

Because this has reached so many more people than I could have imagined, I am adding a bit of info to help those who may not know myself or SDMIdeas understand just who we are and what we do. As well as help clarify how we will use the funds so generously sent in.

SDMIdeas is the small business, I, Sinclair MacGregor started in 2005. SDMIdeas has been located in Paradise, Ca at my home workshop for the last three years. I began SDMIdeas to fill a need for local comapnies who needed prototype PCBA. SDMIdeas has slowly but steadily grown from those first days to be able to not only provide protoyping services but to support growing companies production needs as well. SDMIdeas is comprised of myself and Eli Cowan. Eli is an engineering student who started working for SDMIdeas earlier this year, Eli has been a great help in day to day operations and has been busy learning new skills and just basically being awesome! Eli has been setting up and running the Quad QSP2 assembler SDMIdeas owned before this catastrophe.

Funds raised in this effort will be used to replace some of the equipment that makes up the SMT assembly line. Specifically the Quad QSP2(or similar) assembler. For those who are unfamiliar with SMT equipment, an assembler is the CNC machine which physically places small electronic components onto a bare PCB board to create a PCBA (a for assembly). A cheeky description is - robot tweezers that perform a “paint(place) by numbers”. SMT assemblers can be very large expensive pieces of equipment. SDMIdeas hopes to be able to replace the QSP2 but is looking in to other assembler options as well. Funds will be used for purchase of a QSP2 or similar equipment and accessories as well as the freight shipment required as these are large and heavy pieces of equipment. This page will be updated once a suitable assembler has been located and secured.

I have really enjoyed the opportunities to work with so many great people and comapnies. SDMIdeas is lucky to have such a great customer base. It is always interesting and sometimes mind-blowing to see the incredible ideas and products that are designed by those who use SDMIdeas services. I am always working on some new, cool, unheard of project and feel so lucky to be able to be a part of creating and manufacturing such a large variety of products. Thank You so much for the opportunity to continue doing so.

Hello All, Thank you so much for the incredible generosity. Due to the awesomeness of a large number of people SDMIdeas will be able to recover from this catastrophe sooner than could reasonably be hoped for. SDMIdeas has been able to track down much of the required equipment to get back to work. While this is still not a simple nor easy process, the kindness of people - even those who I have never met, has made this experience easier than could be hoped for. SDMIdeas is still working to secure a good assembler but has found some promising options. Huge Thanks to all of the individuals and companies who have pulled together to support SDMIdeas in this time - It is clear that the Assembly community is an amazing network of great people. SDMIdeas would not exist without the support recieved. Thank You!

Sinclair MacGregor
