Help single mom fight rare pulmonary carcinoma

Don protégé

I am a 48yr old single mom of 3 children whom I raise myself. 10yrs ago I went from being a normal healthy woman who thought I had food poisoning to a woman who in 3 days was in congestive heart failure fighting for my life After several hospitals & a few months I was diagnosed with a rare terminal illness called Cushing's Disease & told my case is so rare only 2-3 out of a million get. Doctors said I wouldnt live to see 38 & if I did I would be in a wheelchair. I have fought so hard not to make that a reality. With this disease you usually have a tumor on your pituitary in the brain or adrenal glands. In my case they could not find the tumor and after 5 months in hospital dying & due to the excessive amount of cortisol my body was producing had to remove both adrenal glands in order to survive while searching for tumor. I was enrolled in a government research program at The National Institute of Health in Bethesda MD where I continued to return every few months for testing & treatments & during one visit at NIH they not only found the tumor but several of them in the lymph nodes around the trachea & in the lungs. A biopsy has turned up a rare metastatic neuroendocrine carcinoma which is stage 4. Upon releasing me from NIH they gave me no referrals for an oncologist or anything. I was left on my own to figure out what to do. After researching several oncologists I found one at NY Presbyterian in NYC willing to treat me so I made the trip in hopes to be able to remove cancerous tumors & beat this horrific diagnosis. I underwent my a series of surgeries at NY Presbyterian removing cancerous lymph nodes in both lungs, bronchial, aorta and right hillier of heart. Unfortunately after removing 52 lymph nodes and 34 positive tumors from those areas the cancer continues to spread & I continue to search for treatment across the states and abroad so I can live and continue to be a mom to my kids. The cancer seems to be a slow growing cancer not curable wish tends to become aggressive at any particular time. The steroids I need to live are damaging my muscles & nerves as well as eating away at my bones to the point my right knee ended up being replaced and I've been diagnosed with osteoporosis which at some point doctors predict I will need future surgeries to replace hips and eventually lose my ability to ambulate altogether. NIH has given up on me stating there is nothing more they can do for me. I’m currently being treated at Vanderbilt in Nashville & my endocrinologist at St Thomas inn Nashville which is a couple hours from my home as well as being followed by my thoracic specialist at NY Presbyterian in NYC. However, I am grateful to still be alive & to have learned how to walk again with assistive devices as needed; my health continues to deteriorate & Expenses to travel & costs pertaining to treatments, medications and maintenance are overwhelming & difficult to maintain household expenses & help for my children while living off social security. The past 10yrs have exhausted ay savings, credit cards, 401k, sold all valuables doing all I can to get by. I even designed my own shirts not only to bring awareness to such a rare cancer so many have never even heard of but to also help try & raise money for continued treatment expenses . I've worked so hard my entire life and in the blink of an eye it was all robbed of me. I cannot even explain how that feels. Its been a long difficult battle up until this point but I've accepted what I cant control or change & I cannot continue to fight this battle without help. I am forever grateful to any & all who support me as I continue to fight this horrific battle and endure all the suffering despite knowing there is no cure but I'd still like to continue to be a mom to my kids and watch them continue to grow and achieve their goals and be successful. And there's one more thing I'd like to accomplish before this disease destroys me altogether. I like to find someone to help me write a book with all my journals I've been writing & documenting every single thing Ive endured and learned about 2 diseases most have never heard of. I want to share my story with the world and help educate and bring more awareness to 2 very rare diseases and inspire others to never give up despite the odds stacked against you.
