updated August 26, 2017

I was at Queen’s Medical Center for five days with my brain surgery. The tumor was stage four Glioblastoma, the most aggressive form of brain cancer there is.  The staff at Queen’s was great, I’m so appreciative.  The surgeon was able to remove most of the tumor, also had to remove a bit of my brain.

I’m amazed at my recuperation, there’s improvement everyday.  The other day I caught myself starting to run across the street… until my head kicked in (so to speak).

I’m still trying to get used to the prognosis - with treatment, the Doc says I have two years to live.  Of course there are exceptions - I’m not holding on to that statistic to tightly.

Treatments start in two weeks -  Radiation and Chemo
5 times a week for six weeks (yes, that’s right).  Then Chemo five times a month for six months…  sounds devastating to me, but it’s really a day at a time.  My social security disability benefits should kick in in five months…

… until then, the $400 per week goal I need to raise here remains the same…

$400 a week for Food, Incidentals, and Alternative Treatments.

The new goal of $11,200 reflects $400/wk budget till my SS benefit are estimated to start.

I am so grateful for your gifts  and support,
Please contribute whatever you can.

June 27th...
I was experiencing numbness in my left side, CT scans show a 5cm x 2cm tumor in my parietal lobe, on the periphery of the brain - right up against my skull. The good things… It’s not deep in my brain, and there are no other anomalies anywhere - it’s not likely to be malignant.

I’m sticking with that ‘best case’ scenario.

The neurologist here on Maui referred my treatment/surgery to Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu, so they’re flying me over - I’m still waiting for an appointment from that neurologist’s office. They did tell me the biopsy will probably be done at the time of surgery.

Best case scenario is: I get to Queen’s quickly and it’s a routine deal.

Except, it’s not happening ‘quickly’…  So, I’ve started nutritional and alternative therapies with good results; my goal is to reduce tumor swelling (which created the nerve impingement to left side body motor functions) at least, and keep me off the debilitating anti seizure / steroid meds combo I was taking.

The last day I worked was on June 2nd.
I've applied for Temporary Disability Insurance, SSDI, and SSI - my applications were determined uneligible for all.  I worked two part time jobs, one was not considered for TDI (self employed on a 1099), and I didn’t meet the 20 hr/wk minimum with the other one.  I applied for Public Assistance ( food stamps & welfare) and was denied both. Fortunately, I’ve been covered by Medicare.

I have no expendable income now for daily necessities:
Food, Incidentals, Supplements & Therapy…
That budget comes to $400/wk.  Best case scenario is four months till I can get back to work, so my short term goal is to raise $6,400 in four months.
I’m not addressing the medical costs here, we’ll see what happens  after the insurance sifts through it - a day at a time.

Friends have been helping me get around, and bringing dinner over - I’lll be getting some weekly home health care visits as well, and I’m so very grateful.  The love and support I’ve been receiving from friends and family is humbling - And amazingly beautiful miracles are coming out of left field, from people I don’t even know, Feeling so deeply blessed, no words can express.  The roller coaster of emotion… fear, anger, hopelessness… coupled with the extreme highs in moments of pure love and unmitigated grace - It’s  been the most intense experience of my life, and life-changing for sure.

Any contribution you can make to my ‘Best Case Scenario’ Fund is appreciated greatly.
A monthly gift of any amount will directly contribute to my overall wellbeing in more ways than we’ll probably know, more than the dollar amount attached to it, that’s for sure.  Life is a gift.  Thank You.

If you prefer to contribute directly, you can PayPal or mail, please contact me for the details -  anything is greatly appreciated.

I will follow up with more info as it comes in - right now I’m waiting to get to Honolulu for treatment.

If you are inspired to share this post, please do.

In Love, Light & Aloha -
with sincere grateful thanks,

Scott
