Scot's Medical Fund

As some of you may know, my husband Scot Shearer, has been diagnosed with a severe case of organized pneumonia.  We have been battling this illness for about 1 month.  It first started as a virus, which turned into bronchitis, and then into pneumonia.  He was first hospitalized at Goshen General Hospital on March 7, and then transferred by ambulance to Indiana University Methodist on Wednesday, March 14.  He is currently in the Adult Critical Care Unit at IU Methodist.  He was put on a ventilator in Goshen and currently remains on the ventilator at IU Methodist.  The ventilator assists with his breathing so he doesn’t have to work so hard to breath.  All the tests that were performed in Goshen General Hospital and IU Methodist have all returned either clear or negative.  They are currently providing him with steroids to help with the inflammation of the lung tissue and antibiotics to help with any infections he may have, but his body has not been responding to this treatment.  A lung biopsy has been performed, and we are waiting on the results from that.  I stayed at a hotel for 3 nights at a reduced rate, but had to find another location because I simply could not afford to stay at a hotel long term.  I was able to find housing through Fairhaven Foundation, which is a Christian non-profit organization that provides housing to families who have loved ones that are currently hospitalized.  My plan is to stay in Indianapolis as long as it takes to bring him back home again.  In order for me to stay in Indianapolis, I am seeking assistance for funds to help cover our deductible, the ambulance trip from Goshen to Indianapolis, meals, laundry, gasoline, and other out-of-pocket expenses.
