Our dad, Dan Parker, fell while hiking in the mountains north of Seattle in June 2016. He suffered several injuries - the most serious are 2 fractured c-spine vertebrae and an incomplete C5 spinal cord injury. He also fractured his left arm and experienced some brain trauma.
For his whole life Dan has been an avid outdoorsman: hiking along nature trails and off into the bush, cross-country skiing, going on countless flatwater and whitewater canoeing trips, and then taking up climbing when he got into his 60s.
With your support, financial or otherwise, we are confident that Dan will find many new and exciting ways to experience the great outdoors and continue to live his life to the fullest.
There are creative rehabilitation tools and fun gadgets for leading an active life in a wheelchair that will not be covered by insurance and so for Dan’s 65th birthday year we are hoping to raise funds to help ensure he has every resource available to him to spend the next 35 years continuing to live the life of a true adventurer! Examples include: a lightweight manual wheelchair for sports & exercise, neuromuscular electrical stimulation devices to improve grip and muscle & joint health, a hand bike to tour around, holders for iphone or tablet to facilitate access, and countless others.
This GoFundMe campaign has been created by Dan's daughters, Robin, Linden, and Kerry Jo. We are wanting Dan to be able to afford his new lifelong care and health needs without having to give up the active life to which he is accustomed. All funds, minus the fees associated with using this site (7.9% + $0.30/donation), will go directly to Dan for purchase of adaptive and rehabilitative equipment. We will keep this campaign open for all of Dan's 65th year (until July 29, 2017) and will likely start buying equipment in the summer and fall of 2016 as Dan transitions from rehabilitation care back to more independent living at home, with assistance. As we get a better sense of what Dan's needs and wants are and what technology is available, we will continue acquiring equipment throughout the year. We will keep everyone posted here regarding how the funds are being used - complete with pictures and videos of Dan in action!
