The students at Gateway STEM HS would describe themselves as: hardworking, focused, helpful, ready to do anything, varying abilities, athletic, motivated, self-organized, and self-advocates.
Gateway STEM is a high school, one of the largest in the Saint Louis Public School system. There are over 25 different languages spoken by the student body, making it a very diverse school. There are different majors in the school including: aviation, pre-vet, business, EMT, marketing, ROTC, and nursing. There are over 18 different sports that students can join.
There will be two to five classrooms of students (approximately 25 students) that will start the coffee cart business. All of the classrooms include students with varying abilities, and three of the classrooms include students with autism that have moderate intellectual disabilities. Two of the classrooms have students that will forefront the business and serve as peer tutors in helping students with autism serve the coffee and run the business. The classrooms will partner together for a collaboration that will seek to change lives and school culture.
