Hello friends, family, and strangers alike,

Through the encouragement of many people in my life, I have decided to take this leap of faith in asking my community to help me with my education.

A little background about me:
I am from Tripoli, Libya and came to the United States in 2013. I grew up under the dictatorship of the Muammar Gaddafi regime that ruled my country for 42 years. When I was 16, there was a revolution that successfully ousted Gaddafi. I was a participant and felt honored to be a part of this tremendous movement that freed my people from this dictatorship. The revolution ended in a happy moment for my country but soon left the government and our society in chaos. After the revolution, when I was 18, I decided to move to the United States to pursue my education. It was impossible for me to go to college in Libya because the schools were often closed due to the unstable conditions and lack of safety in the country. When I first came, my parents were able to support me financially. However, as conditions worsened in Libya, they were unable to access funds for me as our banking system has collapsed.

When I arrived in the United States, I had extremely limited English and resources, but my passion for education and desire to give back propelled me to start my college journey and obtain an education at Foothill College. I am now in my third year and am majoring in Business Economics, the major that I love, and by getting my degree I will be able to help and support others who are in need and facing the same challenging that I'm facing. Also, after I receive my bachelor's degree, I’m planning to attend law school and become a lawyer so I can help people who are in need of legal support and aid from their community.

The past quarter has been one of the hardest in my educational journey both mentally and financially. As an international student, I am only allowed to work part-time on campus, and I work at the college bookstore. I have done everything in my power to make ends meet financially while maintaining a high GPA and keeping a balance between school and work.

In the Fall of 2017, I will start my journey at UC Irvine where the tuition will be higher than what I pay now at the community college. I know that I will be able to support myself and work when I transfer and keep a good GPA, but I also know that the money I will be able to earn from my on-campus job will only pay for my room and board at max. So, I would like to ask my community to help me pay for my tuition so that I can fulfill my goal of a bachelor's degree from UCI, which is what I have fought for since day one.

I feel confident that if I can receive the help from my community for the first year's tuition, I will be able to work hard and get through the last year on my own by saving up. Attending school is a privilege, and it is my only tool to survive and have a better future. Due to the dangerous conditions at home, I cannot return to Libya at this time. I am so close to achieving my dream, and I have faith that my community can help me cross this financial bridge of one year's tuition which will carry me forward on my path of success so that I too can start giving back.

Thank you so much for your support, highly appreciated.

Tuition at UCI for classes only one year is $42,000, every dollar helps!
