School Psychologist Fights Cancer

It is so unreal—the diagnosis of cancer is terrifying and sudden, and seems to come out of nowhere. My mom, who has always helped others as a special education teacher and school psychologist, is now asking for help for herself.
In February of 2017, my mom, Maureen, began experiencing stomach pain that was cause for alarm. Thinking it was a gall bladder issue, her doctor ordered an ultrasound. However the results were more serious than expected. My mom was diagnosed with a neuroendocrine tumor on her liver, most likely cancerous.
My mom is a survivor. In 2001 she battled breast cancer as a single mom when I was only seven years old. She is a fighter and a believer, and aside from being a mother, a daughter and a sister, she is a valued member of any community she is a part of. Now we are asking for the communities she is part of to help us in this difficult time.
When the oncologist asked my mom what brings her joy, she listed so many things—family, laughing, writing, yoga, learning new things, helping people, hiking, reading—that the oncologist had to stop her. Last summer she completed a 100 hour training in Baptiste children’s yoga. This summer she planned to visit me in my Peace Corps placement, and then complete a 200-hour training to become certified as a yoga teacher for adults. Instead she will be getting the treatment she needs to stop the cancer from spreading.
We are asking for help to cover the travel costs, co-payments, and the treatments not covered by our health insurance. Please give anything you can, even $1 helps.
