School Lunch Debt Fifth Ward JH
Donation protected
At a recent open house event, I learned that the school cafeteria is operating at a loss of roughly $2,000 per year. This debt is not affected by the free/reduced lunch program in which the school receives money from state funding for. This is debt the school takes on when kids that don't qualify for free/reduced lunch come to school without lunch money. The school makes it a point to make sure the kids are fed. This $2,000 has to come out of the school budget for other resources within the school. The average school lunch is $1.30 which equates to over 1,500 lunches per school year. This may be some of the student’s only source of nutrition. I have lost sleep overhearing this the last two nights and finally decided to try and do something to help the school recoup some of this cost. This is a small school, 470 students, with grades PRE-K-8th. If the goal is exceeded, I will make sure the remaining funds get donated to the entire parish cafeteria program to help other schools that may be operating at a loss. Thank you for taking a look at my campaign and I hope you will consider donating.
