Fund School Fees For Amazing Family In Cambodia

Donation protected

hello everyone,

my name is Suri, i am a 24 year old student from germany and this is my very first attempt to raise money for a good cause. I'd appreciate it a lot, if you'd spend a few moments on reading the story about an incredible father and his daily struggle to provide for his family.

I met Kim (father) on my travels through south-east-asia in the capital of Cambodia earlier this year. He's a Tuk-Tuk driver who approached me, when i arrived at my hostel. Since i was travelling for several weeks, i was used to locals trying to sell stuff or services to me. But there was something different about Kim. He wasn't pushy or intrusive, but very polite and almost shy.

I didn't need a ride that night, but since he was refreshingly nice, i promised him, i'd find him, if i'd need a Tuk Tuk some other time.  Which was the case the very next day. Some friends of mine wanted to see the ''killing fields'' and the genocide museum ''S21'' to learn about the horrendous terrors Paul Pot and the Red Khmer brought over this country just 40 years ago.  I actually did find Kim that morning, since he was sleeping in a hammock, which he hang up in his Tuk Tuk in front of our hostel.

He was more than happy, when I approched him this time and asked, if he wants to take us to the sights. He was very excited, that i picked him, since there were plenty of other Tuk Tuk drivers right next to us yelling and coming towards us. Over the day my first impression of him strenghtened. He's  one of the most humble and polite people i've ever met in my entire life.

My heart sank a little, when he looked at me with the most grateful eyes and said: ''thank you for giving me work today''. I was curious who this person was and started to ask him about his life.

He is a 34 year old married man with two beautiful children aged 9 and 6. He used to work as a security man, but had to quit, because it's just more profitably to work in tourism. And you could tell: he hates his job. It's just not suited for his gentle, introvert soul. And i feel he often gets overshadowed by the more loud and aggressive people in this industry. To be able to work with tourists, he started learning english 3 years ago and honestly: he did a pretty darn good job so far! I was very impressed by the effort and discipline he showed.

He lives with his family in a small village roughly 2 hours away from Phnom Penh, which means he has to spend couple of days in Phnom Penh, earn some money (usually between 5 and 25 dollar a day), sleep in his hammock and then return to his family. Their home is a corrugated-iron hut. His voice was filled with happiness and pride when he talked about his wife and kids and i could tell that all in all they live a humble, happy life.

But they struggle to finance their Kids education. Kim works very, very hard to send both to school, to allow them to learn english and pave the way for a better life.

At the end of the day, we invited him for dinner and i could tell from his reaction, that that has never happened before. And again he was very humble. When i asked him, what he wants to eat, he chose the cheapest dish on the menu and he didn't finish it to wrap it up and share it later with his family. I was teary most of the day and just touched by this beautiful person. He genuinely never tried to take advantage of me - a priviliged white girl from the western world.

They send me photos and videos from time to time and say they pray for me and my family. I am not religious at all, so i am not praying for them, but instead i really want to try helping change their life for good and support this beautiful father of two.

If you want or need any more information just message me. I appreciate every donation. Thank you very much.
