Vet bills for small rescued dogs looking for homes

Donation protected
This is "Hazel"  She was rescue from a pretty sad situation in North Texas.  Some rescue friends knew Karen takes in little chihuahuas and help them any way she can.  Generally they winter there with her in TX and get any vetting they need to get healthy then they all come North to  MA.  If we are lucky, they find some amazing new parents. If not, they go home with her.
Here is a link to the story of where she first came from with another dog she also took: https://www.kxii.com/content/news/18-dogs-seized-from-empty-Cooke-County-home-503734721.html?fbclid=IwAR0qPj2J-G1zi2WSKRqmLOb16va4u6eIATBWhNWJjcyJgBH7zBjX6x0u3JQ

Hazel is a 6 lb chihuahua puppy and has a severe hip injury. There is a photo of the x-ray in the update. She needs  FHO, or femoral head ostectomy surgery where they remove the top of her femur then she needs lots of rehab either to be done by her current foster (us) or new family. Her expenses are expected to be $2-3000 and then when she is healthy she will be given away.  The expense might be lower as a rescue vet has been consulted however there are literally thousands in vet bills (with receipts)  on the dogs she has in her house with more coming and she pays them out of pocket on a very limited income.  Last spring we drove up dogs from TX to MA and gave them away. That drive was pretty expensive as well and we will do it again in the spring.

All current dogs in need of homes are 10 lbs or under.
1) Buddy, white poodle x terrier, 2-3 years old sweetheart.  He has  been treated and cleared of heartworm.
2), Develin older female spayed long haired chihuahua was terrified when rescued, she has a pretty awful backstory along with Hazel. She is  missing a lot of hair due to malnutrition but has very quickly warmed up into a friendly, affectionate little girl, She came out of the situation in the above linked news story. When they picked her up to bath her she pooped in fear. But now, only a few weeks later she is an absolute sweetheart, playful and happy.
3) Hazel, red long haired chihuahua female 5.5 lbs probably under a year old very playful. Hazel is the one who needs the big hip surgery.  She is missing half her tail. Also has to have her hair grow back in due to malnutrition and has some sort of eye infection or irritation being treated. She is one of the dogs from the story above.
4) An emaciated male just dropped off this afternoon Feb. 3 at Karens house by a neighbor hours ago, young and very sweet that is all that is known about him.  He will be HW tested and neutered and get anything else he needs.
5) Dottie - minnie pin cross spayed female age unknown, not too old, not a puppy.

We will be driving any unhomed dogs to MA in the spring to my house so they can be placed then if anyone is interested or they could be flown up and carried on the plane for the cost of a ticket. These dogs, with the exception of the new, skinny one have had all vet work - spay/neuter/necessary dental/ HW testing and in some cases HW treatment.

They are all living with other dogs and a cat, not tested with kids. They all have trauma histories so while they are happy and well adjusted where the are, any new homes need to understand that they will need to have time to feel safe and come out of their shells again once in a new home.

We are looking for a little help and homes and obviously donors can have first preference if they are interested in one. We are not a rescue with a long application but we will be very careful how they are placed.

Also, for anyone who wants to help, we can provide information for the rescue vet and the surgeon where donations can be made directly to them so that you are assured your money is going where you intend it to go.   We drive back and forth twice a year with dogs coming on the spring trip from Texas to MA and can work out delivery on that trip anywhere between here and there which is also expensive. . We take any dog back that is not working out.

Please email for pictures of individual dogs.
