Saving Clara The Milk Cow

My father, who works in the Mexican state of Jalisco went a few weeks ago to recover a debt owed to one of his clients.
Being Mexico, El Tuito - to be precise - a small village 44 km away from beach vacation place Puerto Vallarta, and the classic example of rural Mexico, the people who owed the money didn’t have it but instead offered to pay with a pregnant cow.
Now, my dad is a paralegal and has no clue of animals, he is a carnivore, and only knows of veganism due to me and my husband.
When he told us through WhatsApp we thought it was a joke, but it wasn’t, and hence the idea came up to adopt her.

We named her Clara and my dad kept her for a few weeks in a ranch in El Tuito. However, due to the very high cost of keeping her ($32 USD per week), and the responsibility of paying my dad’s client for the cow which would be around $600 USD, my dad had no choice but to return her. Unfortunately, the fate that awaits her currently would most likely be the slaughterhouse.

We understand that is not much money, but for the people of Mexico it is and myself being a passionate defender of animal rights and against any kind of animal abuse or exploitation for the purpose of good or other animal products, we couldn’t give her up like this.
So we decided to share this story through Facebook  and friends, friends of friends and strangers started to share it.
This gave us hope of saving Clara and her unborn calf, to take her to a sanctuary where she won’t be exploited, but instead where Clara and her calf can live a dignified life as an animal and as a mom, as well a sentient being who deserves to live.

We're trying to raise about $1000 (USD) for the following:

- $587 to pay my dad's client (who is being owed $11,000 MXP)
- Transport of Clara to a sanctuary (place and cost are being determined at this moment)
- Food ($32 per week and possibly more once the calf is born)
- Veterinary visits
