Saving Baby Rooney
Donation protected
On Sunday I was volunteering as a photographer at the North Central Animal Shelter in Los Angeles and fell head over heels in love with a five-week-old tortie kitten. I couldn't leave her at the shelter so I fostered her and her brother. I named her Rooney. When I went home to feed them lunch today, Rooney was seizing. Her limbs were stiff, she couldn't control her head, and she was screaming. I took her to the emergency vet and luckily they were able to stabilize her. The vet said that Rooney was so hypoglycemic that her blood sugar didn't even register as a number on their machine. Her temperature was only 96.7. They put her on a dextrose IV and were able to raise her temperature and her blood sugar back to normal. She also ate a bit on her own. She is staying overnight while they run tests and try to figure out what happened.
The shelter doesn't pay for veterinary expenses and had I taken her to the shelter vet, they would have euthanized her. (I fostered a kitten last year, Ruby Rose, and the same thing happened; I brought her to the shelter vet and they euthanized her.)
I want to do whatever it takes to save Rooney, but her medical care is very expensive so any help I could get would be greatly appreciated.
