The Workmen's Circle is a community and membership organization founded in 1900 as a way to promote social action, justice, as well as Yiddish culture and education..
Over the past 117 years, we have grown and adapted to the needs of our community. Each year we host many programs that members of our community participate in. Here they get to enjoy in the culture our organization promotes.
Our organization has a food assistance program called the "Mitzvah Food Pantry" that has grown every year for the past 15 years. Over the past few years, this program has annually provided over 50,000 meals to members of our community struggling with food insecurities.
We hold a Free Yiddish Concert in the park each year that promotes and entertains over a thousand locals with the joy of classic and modern Yiddish Music.
Each year we also host High Holiday Services and a Third Seder during Passover.
In the past, we've also held Yiddish Classes and taken part in the organization and implementation of social demonstrations. These displays fight against local and global injustices, and work to promote a message of Peace, Love, Tolerance and Hope to the world. These are programs and campaigns that we are currently working to bring back.
We need this campaign because over the past 10 years, our organization has struggled financially. We have made many changes to save money while still being able to provide the same services to our community, but each year, despite having a fairly low annual operating cost, we end up with less money than the year before. Unfortunately now, in our current state, we will not be able to exist though the end of the year.
This campaign is necessary in order for us to reverse this and to prevent our organization from becoming nothing more than a memory in our community.
