Our dear friend Jeanette was in a serious car accident while studying abroad in Mexico this October. Jeanette was riding in the backseat, when the driver lost control of the vehicle at a roundabout. It rolled several times, and at some point she was thrown out of the car and into a post. First responders quickly transported her to state-operated general hospital, Augustine O’Horan in Yucatan, MX.
Jeanette is recovering at Augustine O’Horan hospital until she is stable enough to be transported to the United States. She suffered traumatic brain injuries and facial fractures. With the support of her wonderful family, friends and local community we are confident Jeanette will return to the loving, caring mother we love. That said, she sustained very serious injuries, the worst were to her head and caused her to fall into a coma for 16 days. On the 30th of October Jeanette briefly regained consciousness and the doctors discovered she has significant paralysis and her long-term recovery is unknown.
Over the past week she has gained greater awareness of her surroundings, but is unable to see, speak or move. Jeanette needs to be transported back home to U.S. for numerous surgeries to repair the right side of her skull and eventually reconstruct her jaw and face. She also has a three-year old son named Jesus, who desperately needs his mom. He asks for her every day and we need to reunite them.
The estimated out-of-pocket transportation expenses, medical expenses and cost of adjustments for mobility are extremely high. It’s not easy to ask for help, but we want to support Jeanette at a time when she cannot. Please help us ease the financial burden so she can focus on recovery and caring for her son.
