Help Save Babe
$7,492 of $16,000 goal
UPDATE: 7/23/15: Babe and the Twins are back home after an approx 1 month stay at the U of M. They have done everything they can for Babe and we feel that her spirits will be better if she comes home to the only place she has ever known. The dollar amount covers their stay at the U of M.
Any funds raised that are over our expenses will be donated to the U of M Vet program for use by others needing their assistance.
Thank you all so very much for your support during this difficult time.
There are negative people all over you world. Those that belittle and have no nice words. Shame on them. It's never you it's them when someone has a rude or insensitive comment. So, if one needs a kidney you assume they were an alcoholic? Or a child needs a surgery to save there life it's there parents neglect?? Mmmm no. Don't phish just to leave negative words. If folks help in any denomination then fantastic! A thousand people spare a dollar and it equals?.... One jerk leaves a rude comment and it equals.. A small person.
I am sorry you feel that way Mrs. Willis. My parents are modest horse breeders that work very hard to pay their own way. As for your assumption that they hire professional photographers....it is just that, an assumption. Yes. There was a day (many years ago) that some family friends took professional photos for the ranch. You do not know a persons exact situation with out knowing those folks. This situation with the twin foals is an extremely rare occasion where my parents are willing to do what ever necessary to save 3 lives! They are very humbled by the response and were very reluctant to accept the help that all of these people are VERY GRACIOUSLY giving of their own free will. If you do not approve of this Go Fund Me request, that is your right. I pray that you will never find yourself in such an extreme financially draining situation. May God bless you and your animals with health and financial stability.
There is an old saying if you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all. If y'all don't agree with what is going on here scroll on by. No one is forcing you to berate these poor people already going through hell enough. I wish I had money to give but I don't but I wish you the best. Maybe contact a horse rescue that had a sling you could borrow. God bless
This is my mom's mare. She has raised this horse from a foal. And I know that Babe is in the best hands possible. My mom will be sure to get the best possible care for her, but as most of you probably know, the bank account only allows so much stretching....If you can, please help......Thank you so much to those of you that are donating! My mother was in tears this morning just talking about this.
Dear Mrs. Willis, I'm not sure of your age, your raising, or your stature in your community, and to be honest I'm not caring about it at this point; however, I can tell you that I am from a long line of horsemen, cattlemen, ranchers, and farmers and your position of the situation at hand would have you in tears if my family heard you say this. I will be cordial and nice in this response as I was raised with morals and values (something you seem to lack). Let me help you understand this a little better. You see most of us horsemen, cattlemen, ranches, and farmers care about our livestock as others care about armani suits and Louis vitan heels. The only difference is our livestock make us money as your suits and shoes help you spend yours. We take pride in what we have because we work from sun up to sun down just to make that dollar work for us only to get 50 cents in our pocket. What we do is not a rich mans game but are are richer for doing the job. I'm sure you won't understand that one either. As for professional pictures.... Anyone can take a pic and have it look of professional quality. Don't believe me. Look up Nebraska through the lens on Facebook... Those are common everyday people who enjoy taking pics that look very professional. Last point I would like to make is unless you do this family's taxes or are their accountant, you don't know what their pocket holds, so you my dear Mrs. Willis have no reason to speak to them in any fashion about finances. I hope the good lord above forgives your petty, rude, thoughtless, and belittled behavior and offers you a manner to make an apology for assuming the situation as you did. Just remember when you "assume" you make an "ASS from U not ME"
Let's stop giving these trolls attention and/or explaining ourselves. Clearly, their education and empathy is lacking (and that's their problem, not ours). Sylvia and Jeff are respectable, thoughtful, humble horse breeders, and their hard work and horse care doesn't need to be defended. It stands for itself. So...redirecting the energy where it belongs...to Babe, the twins, and the Passow clan! Hugs to you guys! Hang in there! So glad you are at the U!
Not sure what the comment was, but I am one of the photographers who came out and took pictures. I am currently a photography student and as such I jumped at the opportunity to photograph something as wonderful as the twins and their beautiful dam, and I did so as a favor to someone who has freely given me so much that I could never repay them. I have known Sylvia and her family for 22 years. Since I was 9 years old! They are an extension of my own family and have treated me as they do every hungry soul that shows up on their doorstep; as one of their own. Sylvia has been my mentor, my second mom, and one of my very best friends. There isn't much I wouldn't do for them if given the means and the opportunity. The situation they are facing is very real. People need to get off their soap boxes and keep their mouths shut if they can't say something nice, especially when they do not know the people they are dealing with. We are praying for Babe and the Twins and the Passow family as I know this is very difficult for them all.
a very sincere thank you to all of you out there that are supportive (in any format!) to my parents during this time. Babe was born at my parents' farm 21 years ago....All of your kindness is making this situation more tolerable. My mom & dad are very humbled by the monetary support and I keep telling them that they are VERY DESERVING of it....I can assure you that the money will be well spent to ensure the best care for this trio. I do not know yet what the total is of the veterinary bills to-date, but I do know that it keeps going up. I hope and pray that Babe is able to recover quickly so that she can be back at Brush Poppin Ranch where she belongs. My mom doesn't even want to leave the equine hospital. She wants to move into the stall next to Babe and her twins.
Wow, Mrs. Hames and Mrs Willis. Did you ladies ( and I use that term loosely) go out of your way to be bitches or is that something that comes naturally? Are your negative comments absolutely necessary? Was it making you crazy to not post something hateful? Shame on the both of you! I hope the mare gets the medical care and relief she needs to care for her beautiful babies. I'm sorry that I can not help financially for my 6 equines keep me horse poor. However, Babe is in my prayers.
Best of luck with Babe. And, glad you are letting others help during this time. Lord knows how much you have given and shared with others over the years. I have always admired your hosting of foreign exchange students, your dedication to family, friends, and community. Your care and concern for your animals mirror that as well. You & Jeff are good people..easist way to say it. Best to all!
What a discussion thing to say to someone in emotional trauma. I recently had an unexpected emergency that went beyond my pockets. Having help with the monetary part removed one major worry from the situation. Giving is by free choice, so why be rude and insulting?
...most equine insurance policies are copay 80/20...now that the mare and foals are at the Univ. of Minnesota, the 20% Sarah has to pay will probably exceed the $5000.00 she is asking...there are plenty of other expenses-transportation, a hired hand, followup vet bills and followup medicine...this is a rare condition, which seems to be curable...Babe would have died by now...
Mrs. Willis and Miss Hames. both of you should be ashamed of yourselves for even making crude comments like that. this mare needs help and the owners don't need your lack of compassion. you two aren't even worth the time just because you two think these people don't know how to care for horses. go troll some other site if you have something negative to say. as for these owners trying to get help for the mare, I'd give a big thumbs up for the people in charge to get the mare a sling until her injury heals. I'm sorry I can not donate but I'll keep the mare in my prayers and those of you that can only criticize?, hope you don't end up in some situation where you are going to need help cause everyone that knows you will just turn their backs and ignore you.
Ellie May Hames I am not a horse person and do not know a great deal about the situation. However I do know that this family has been around and raising horses for more years than I am alive. Sylvia's mother and father were already well known horse people in the 1950's or earlier and she learned right at their side. I find it hard to believe she did anything that would endanger a horses well being in any way.
Im so sorry for your loss . She was a beautiful mare & im so glad you have her foals to keep her memory alive ... she ia at peace now & watching from above. ... take care
Please do consider having the U test further... it would be terrible to lose Babe due to misdiagnosis. Thank you for the updates.
I can't see the nasty comments, but can just imagine. Humans can be so cruel, and those who don't understand commitment to and loving animals, are the worst. Go away nasty people and take your nastiness somewhere else. Karma will catch up to you some day.
For which specific sling are you requesting funds? There is only one sling that is priced over $2000, and from our discussion, it sounded like she only needed occasional assistance. I sent pictures days ago of a solution that would cost just over $100, shipping included.
Prayers for a full recovery. Some mares are just born to be mamas. I'm curious as to how twins were not diagnosed at the beginning of gestation. Was it an accident or did she come to you that way? Most breeders U/S their mares to make sure there is only one embryo.
