Save Percy

The little Nubian goat in the photo is named Percy. He is now 4 months old. He came to us wth his mom, Mariah (we renamed her Rosie) and his brother Rupert, from the petting zoo at Hennigar's Farm Market so many local residents will have met our goats there! Percy and Rupert like to go for walks around our field, nibble the leaves off apple trees, jump in and out of the utility trailer and play on their teeter totter.  Unfortunately, Percy and Rupert lost their mom 2 weeks ago to haemonchus contortus. It was sudden and unexpected, likely triggered by the hot, humid weather. A wonderful veternarian who has a natural beside manner, Dr. Wilson (with Cornwallis Vets) was with us when Rosie died and has been attending now to Percy's needs (as well as Dr. Smith). They have been kind and generous and very attentive to the goats. It's been really hard for the boys to lose their mother. They've been quite sad and still look for her, especially when they get up in the morning. They are just starting to be happy again but now Percy is at risk of dying. He suffered a broken jaw. We don't know how it happened but goats get up to all kinds of tricks. The problem is he is just so little and an impact to his jaw was too great. We want to give Percy a fighting chance and we don't want Rupert to be all alone. Goats are social creatures and need the company of others. To save Percy, we need to do a surgery which will wire the jaw so the bone can set. He is taking penicillin to keep away infection and medication for pain and swelling. He is a fighter and is already trying to figure out adaptive ways to eat. But time is urgent. The jaw will not heal on its own and although we are buying him time right now, he is at a critical point and without surgery will die. Percy and Rupert have brought joy and meaning to our lives and to others who have met them and enjoyed watching our videos (which we will be posting). We hope you will consider even a small donation to our cause. We look forward to posting photos and videos where you can watch Percy and see his treatment and recovery. The money donated will be used to cover the cost of surgery, medications, any complications, and modifications to make him comfortable while healing. 10% of funds raised and any money raised in excess of the amount required will be donated to our local SPCA.
Thank you SO MUCH for considering this cause.
