Save Medina Township Fire!

The trustees of Medina Township, Ohio, recently tried to dissolve the Medina Township Fire Department, which has been serving their community for the last 38 years, by entering into a contract with the City of Medina to provide fire services for our community. Had this contract been approved, all 38 firefighters on this department would have been immediately released from their duties with the township and all main line fire apparatus and certain fire related equipment was to be given to the City of Medina Fire Department for their use at their discretion. This contract was pursued by the trustees, in secrecy, without any input from the Chief of the Medina Township Fire Dept., its' officers, firefighters or the citizens of the township and we collectively and strongly oppose this takeover of fire services. We, the Medina Township Firefighters Association (MTFA), felt that this contract was too vaguely worded and felt that it would be placing our community at risk so we sought the advice of legal counsel and successfully filed a temporary injunction stopping the trustee's vote on the issue.
This issue is now heading into the court system and we are preparing for a court battle against the trustees of Medina Township to prevent this takeover. The MTFA is a registered 501(c)(4) non-profit organization and we do not have sufficient funds to support a long, drawn out court battle. Funds obtained through this GoFundMe account would initially be used for the purpose of deferring legal costs incurred by the MTFA during these upcoming court proceedings.
Should this court case be resolved quickly, any excess funds not used in the legal proceedings would be used to purchase fire prevention materials which the MTFA provides to children at various Safety Days and public relations events we participate in each year and donations made to several charites that the MTFA currently supports such as the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation and Stephen Siller Foundation (Tunnel to the Towers).
