Who is The Main Gallery?
For over 16 years The Main Gallery has been a home to some of the Bay Area’s best established and emerging homegrown talents. Nestled in the courtyard at 1018 Main Street in Redwood City, right next to Alana’s Café, we are a local arts destination. We take pride in bringing high-quality fine art, contemporary art, and crafts to our community.
How can you help?
Over the last few years, the gallery’s financial situation has become increasingly challenging as the cost of doing business in downtown Redwood City rose, but a passionate membership boldly bore the costs and continually chipping away at our shrinking cushion. In January 2017, our rental expenses increased dramatically, unexpected financial hiccups came up, and our membership took a serious hit. Today we are faced with the sad knowledge that we may not be able to keep our doors open and are in immediate danger of losing something dear to Redwood City and to us – our home.
Whether you are a regular customer, have stopped in only once or twice, or are hearing about us for the first time, we need you. We are turning to you, our customers and supporters of the arts, to help us turn the tide. To strengthen our foundation, we are looking to raise $10,000 so that we can cover our rent and pay other business expenses while we rebuild our financial cushion through sales and public events. Without you, we may have to close as soon as the end of April 2017.
What’s coming in 2017?
At the end of 2016 we began planning an ambitious 2017 packed full of new initiatives and community outreach. In the pipeline, we have a series of member-lead workshops and demonstrations; pop-up shows that give voice to local artists looking to break out on the scene or feature well-known area artists; auctions and other events open to the greater community.
Art is a unique and necessary form of expression through which people share their passions and emotions with the world. By supporting art in your community you help open up opportunities for public discussions, better understanding of social issues, and community building. You also help your local economy by making your community an attractive and inviting social space to live in or visit.
We are Redwood City’s last co-op art gallery, and by supporting us, you help the city live up to its name – The City of Arts.
