Save our Youth Programs

Young people in Fort McMurray are at risk of losing important programs that are helping them succeed and thrive in their community.

Due to funding shortfalls , The Fort McMurray Boys & Girls Club will experience a loss of over $300,000. This puts both the youth and out-of-school programs of the Club at risk, impacting approximately 60 children (ages 5 to 12) and up to 50 youth.

The FMBGC’s ZAP Out of School Care Program serves 45-60 children daily, and provides crucial care during the critical hours while children are out of school.  This program offers many variations of socio-emotional, vocational, recreational, academic and skill development activities.

Limitless Youth provides important programs for youth aged 12-21 in an inclusive environment under the direction of a Recreation Therapist.  The programs under this umbrella include therapeutic leisure, career preparation, sport, leadership, and specialized adapted programs for youth with special needs, and of varying abilities.

“We are now facing a budget shortfall that may prevent us from serving families that need us right now,” said Board Vice Chair, Michele Taylor. “We are asking the community to rally around us, and help us ensure that we can continue to support these kids and their families.”
