Save our Local Herb Shop!

Over the course of the last 8 years HAALo Herb Shoppe has been fulfilling an important niche in our community; empowering us to take our health in our own hands using plant medicine and natural remedies. Our local herb shop serves as a hub for herbalists and herb farmers, health conscious community members and practitioners. It is a  place of healing and learning. A place where people and plants are connected every day! This is why it is important to continue the legacy of HAALo in our community and save our local herb shop!


Who am I?

Hi, my name is Jahwei, I am a clinical herbalist and naturopath trained in Australia. I have been a part of the HAALo community for the past 7 years and it's one of the main reasons I have chosen to remain in Nevada County! As some of you may know, I have been making herbal extracts and formulas under Remedy Garden Botanicals for 6 years now. I want to be able to continue to offer these to the community and plan for the shop to make its own packaged custom tea blends, extract blends and other herbal products. 

Backstory

When I first moved here, there wasn’t a shop dedicated specifically to herbs and natural healing and when HAALo opened up in 2010 I was very excited to see a grassroots, local herbalism movement grow around the shop.

I have personally witnessed the immense and valuable service it provides to all members of the community. People come in looking for help for all sorts of health complaints from allergies to coughs and colds to indigestion and insomnia.  Sometimes our customers  just want to remain healthy using herbs and natural medicines and sometimes they need help on an emotional or spiritual issue.

When I learned that HAALo was closing,  I was heartbroken.  Shea and countless volunteers and employees have poured their heart and soul into creating this resource but due to challenges such as the changing local economy, online shopping and high overheads, Shea decided she couldn't keep the retail side of HAALo going.  I knew that I had to do everything in my power to save the only herb shop in Nevada County. I offered to buy the shop from Shea and change the name to Remedy Garden Apothecary. HAALo will live on as a clinical and educational entity curated by Shea.



The Vision

I plan to continue to work with local farmers and wild-crafters to provide the best quality medicinal herbs I can find. There will also be the opportunity for over the counter herbal consultations with knowledgeable herbalists, as well as in depth private consultations with local practitioners.

Another passion of mine is homeopathic medicine and I want to continue carrying  professional grade USA made homeopathic remedies. In addition the apothecary will stock the highest quality nutritional supplements, as well as essential oils, flower essences, natural skincare and books.

Remedy Garden Apothecary will also serve as an education centre that will hold classes and workshops to empower and educate.  Last year I helped implement a program for young children from a local charter school to come and learn about herbs each week. Having three children of my own, I know how valuable it is to teach the future generation of herbalists and healers about the wonderful world of herbs and natural health care. A blog and newsletter about all things herbal and natural health is also in the works!
