We come from farming and ranching families- we raise goats, which are surprisingly gentle on the environment, and which we raise by growing our own fodder to feed them, along with farming our own family fruits and veggies that also enrich their diet and provide behavioral enrichment for them as well. No monocropping, no chemicals and no constant medicating, we try to do right by them and by those who put their trust in us to raise good food for their families too!
Before we built this goat farm as a business, we struggled with housing insecurity and even homelessness. For much of our lives, we were unable to climb out of this- but recently, the impossible dream became a reality.
With a personal loan, we purchased a 20 acre parcel that already has Septic, a Well, and Power... and there is enough left over for the well pump to be installed, and a foundation for a VERY small house/cabin to be poured... about 350 square feet, to be exact!
Yes, it will be tiny, it will be no-frills, it will be a single-room cabin, but it will have a bathroom with a flushing toilet, a shower, and the single studio room will have a kitchen sink and fridge, as well as power and heat! ...but we will have to pay for the walls and roof, and invest ALL the rest ourselves!
When it is paid off, it will be ours, and the payment is well within our ability to afford!
We are DELIGHTED with this! This is our way OUT of the cycle of Poverty!
But life has thrown us a curveball.
Our current landlord has mental illness and is elderly, and she has become erratic and unpredictable. In our state and county, there is no way to manage her strange demands, and even stranger behavior. She can ask us to leave our monthly tenancy here if we put up much resistance, and she's become a danger to our farming now. We cannot 'fight' her because if she asks us to leave, we would have no way to move to our property with no place to LIVE on it yet... and right now, we are finding we cannot work on the cabin while she keeps showing up here and harassing us and the goats- -especially- the goats! We cannot move them there without supervision because it is a mountainous region (3500+ feet up!) with predator risks like bears, mountain lions, and wolves... the Goats need supervision and care 24/7... the snow has only JUST melted there, last week, in fact- it is a challenging place.
But we have to move, and we have to move NOW.
This was not a part of the plan, and we're in a bad place- we could lose all the hard work we put into this, just as we were finally escaping the cycles that trapped us for so long!
All we want is the chance to finish what we started. The chance to MAKE this WORK.
We need a code-legal place to live on the property for a year or so, while we get this cabin constructed, and finished at least enough to move into. We HAVE to make this work.
We have spoken to the building inspector who is in control of our project, and they are onboard with us living in an RV or Towable (an rv-type trailer or fifth-wheel type unit) as long as we need to, as long as we are actively building on the site.
In order to do that, we must buy an rv/trailer, and we don't have any cash or the credit scores to do so!
This is what we're asking for your help to do.
Please help us save our farm, our home, our CHANCE to continue to be a part of this community and to build our farm- We need a roof over our head to protect us while we build our way out of housing insecurity with our own two hands.
This is the only thing we need- a safe haven to eat, sleep, and retire to at night. We can do this, but we need your help.
