Save Herbie's big little eye!

Donation protected
Herbie had the opportunity to go many places and see a whole lot of beautiful things along our camping trip (trust me, he appreciated them... although not a desert dog for sure), but unfortunately he developed a corneal ulcer on his left eye, likely from some trauma (dirt, debris, or scratching it while cleaning himself). It is deep enough to require surgery, however they were able to tell that he has not yet lost all his eye sight as a result - this is good news.

It appeared to be healing naturally for a few days, however upon worsening we went to see his vet and opted for an immediate surgery, as this was recommended as his best chance to heal the eye and save it from further surgery / removal.

He was given a procedure where a tiny needle is used to bring blood flow to the injured area, given medicated eye drops, and his eye has been temporarily sewn shut in effort to help protect the area and increase nutrients during the healing process. Poor little guy has a few stitches keeping his eye closed, and a cone on for the next 10 days. They will then remove the stitches and see his progress. We hope that this will do the trick. In the event that it does not, the vet will further assess and update me on options - worst case scenario being removal of the eye.

As most of you know me and Herbie, and our long and loving 11 year relationship, you know how important this dog is to me. He's so much more than a dog, he is a character, a companion, and my little man. I wish I had taken him in earlier and realized that he was in more pain then he showed.

While I am uncomfortable with asking for financial help, I am in a rough position as I was recently laid off and could not foresee this injury happening before my recent road trip. I've already paid for the initial appointment, surgery and medication, but want to prepare myself for the upcoming costs associated with follow up visits and the potential for further surgery. Any funds donated that are not used will be returned, re-donated to another cause, or set aside in an account specifically for Herbie and his aging needs (please feel free to identify when you donate which option you prefer, if any).

Please do not feel the need to contribute financially, as I will make it work one way or another, but please do send any healing vibes our way!

Should you donate, your help is most sincerely appreciated. I will continue to update everyone on his progress. All our love.
