Save Eastern Balt Co Special Olympics Swim Program

Donation protected
Special Olympics Maryland supports hundreds of athletes every year in their efforts to participate in sports at the highest level possible, These sports are provided at no cost to the athletes thank to the generosity of people all over the state who donate to this cause.

Among those athletes are a group of 25 swimmers in Eastern Baltimore County, who have trained the past few years at The Y Swim Center in Dundalk. This group was formed through Special Olympics Baltimore County due to an increased interest in the sport and the need to give these athletes the opportunity to train in the safest environment possible.

Unfortunately, this endeavor is expensive. Special Olympics Baltimore County spends approximately $7,000 a year for the use of the facilities and for The Y Swim Center to provide lifeguards each week. Now, there is a question on whether there are funds to continue the swim program in Eastern Baltimore County.

These athletes have trained extremely hard and have earned dozens of medals at the annual Special Olympics Maryland Summer Games.  As a parent of a Special Olympian, we have seen first-hand the positive influence being able to swim competitively has been for our son, William. He, along with the rest of his teammates, deserve the opportunity to continue to grow in a sport that has brought them so much joy and confidence.  Please consider making a donation to help ensure that these Olympians have a chance to bring home the gold in 2019.
