Coffee is a beloved guinea pig, reigning over Dallas, TX, sister of four, born the smallest of her bunch. She’s a shy but curious and playful one, all black with a little white butt, almost a year old. Always digging under the blanket to hide herself, she would come out to eat lots of food with her sisters, and to say hello to her best friend and caretaker Mai. Today, Coffee needs your help.
At the start of November, Coffee needed to go to the vet when she started urinating blood. The doctors gave her an x-ray and found bladder stones. They gave her meds for her urinary tract infection and stones, and she started to get better. She stopped crying when urinating, no more blood towards the end of last week, and we thought she was healed. As of this past weekend, more and more blood stains have been found where Coffee sleeps.
Coffee cries even louder now, for the bloody urine has returned, this time with bloody feces as well. Coffee has barely touched her food or drank water since Nov 11. We thought the medication would defeat the infection and blockage, but Coffee is getting worst by the hour. Mai spoke with the vet again, and it looks like Coffee will have to have her bladder stones surgically removed. The estimated cost for bladder stone surgery is around $600. We’re going to call the vet again tomorrow as well as 3 other exotic pet places to see how much the procedure will cost, but currently, they do not have the upfront cost to get Coffee into surgery. If you ever had kidney stones, or know of anyone that had them, you would know the dull and sharp pain 24/7 that it causes, making life literally a living hell. Your body can even go into toxic shock at any moment. We are fearing the worst for Coffee. Time is of the essence in getting Coffee that procedure so she can be healthy again.
