Save animals at Cantoalavida

Donation protected

The Cantoalavida Foundation, which is run primarily by Gloria Ramirez Cortes, rescues local cats and dogs who are abandoned and/or abused.  It operates exclusively on an ecological basis and considers its contribution to the balance between people and the environment. She and her team, along with any willing international volunteers, try to provide adequate care to these animals  - this includes basic food supply, medicine, vaccinations, and housing.  Although all attempts are made to provide the best care, there is no consistent  funding, and Gloria has no way to pay the current debts.  At the moment the foundation owes ~€1,500 in unpaid employee salaries, electricity, gas, vet, and food bills .  At present there are 110 cats and 55 dogs to be cared for, with new animals arriving continuously.  There are only 4 paid employees, which makes it impossible to do much more than just feed the animals and clean their living quarters.

Although as much money as possible is required to fund operations, the Foundation equally needs the help from volunteers willing to assist in the daily care of the animals.  Any veterinarian students interested in having hands-on experience are warmly invited to assist and pass on their knowledge.  She does what she can, but she is not a professional vet and would greatly appreciate any additional assistance and/or medicines provided.  If interested in volunteering in any capacity, please see the Workaway site - https://www.workaway.info/213444365874-en.html.  At present she does an incredible job with using local plants for medicine to heal dermatological, respiratory, and gastrointestinal conditions.

CANTOALAVIDA FAMILY MEMBERS

These are 3 of the 5 kittens that were left on the property by a local.  They are only a few days old.  One of them passed away 5 days later, despite all efforts to feed and love them. This is the sad reality of what the Foundation deals with daily.

This is MILU - she was continually sexually abused by a local man and could barely walk when she was found.  After intense care, she is now walking well and has a lovely disposition.

One of many kittens with a dermatological condition that spreads very easily.  This is treated daily with kombucha, aloe vera plant, and other local plant medicines.  We’ll update you on her progress as we go!

For a closer look at what the daily operations look like, please see the following Youtube video thoughtfully created by one of the Foundation’s lovely recent volunteers - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qBQCzOtDOhs&feature=youtu.be

Any money you can give will be gratefully accepted by Gloria and appreciated by all the beautiful animals who now call Canto a la Vida home.

Muchas gracias familias y amigos.
