Save a rescue horse

Please help me bring home this sweet boy!

All we know is what we can see from the photos: this horse was most likely used for long trips everyday pulling a buggy down the road working hard for his family; his legs are pin-fired; he is severely underweight; he is starving; he has the kindest eye; he needs help. I saw his photos surface on Monday as he is believed to be a Morgan (like Chomp and Gabe) so it was shared to the Morgan Horses we Love facebook group. Steve says we can’t afford to take in any more for winter, so I have humbly decided to share this with all of you in hopes that we can in fact rescue him. He is said to be only 8 years old, 15’3, and as you can see looks like a skinny version of my Chompers.

He has until this Saturday to find his freedom. It is not an easy rescue and the more time I spend trying to find affordable transport and quarantine the more impossible it feels. He has the following estimated expenses: $690 bail to the dealer that owns him ($550 US),$500 for 30 days of quarantine, $200 vet expenses to test coggins and obtain a health certificate, and up to $800 in transportation as he is currently in Pennsylvania. Should we exceed the goal set here, funds will go towards his monthly care which will be around $200/month.

Steve and I purchased our farm last year so that we could help more animals. Although I wish we could be an instant sanctuary with the space and resources to help everyone in need, we are here trying our best as time and money permits, helping one animal at a time. In my opinion fall is the worst time of year for horses as we face winter and the high cost of feed, and sadly many used up camp horses head to auction where they are purchased by meat buyers, and go to slaughter. Horse slaughter is banned in the United States yet over 100,000 horses get tagged for human consumption and shipped to Canada and Mexico to be killed every year. Because of this, last fall we rescued 7 miniature horses that shared the same fate as this sweet boy.

All donations will help us in our mission! Buy a bale of hay for $5.50, pledge for a day, week or longer of his 30 day quarantine. Pay for a leg of his journey home. Donate half of his bail at $345 and you can name this horse! As it has become tradition in our barn, every supporter will have their name written on a ‘this rescue made possible by’ framed photo of the horse.
