Save a Horse, Change a Life!

Save a Horse, Change a Life is a non-for profit movement to rescue horses in need of a home to provide an educational and therapeutic experience for special needs children and veterans.  I am a special education teacher, a certified Special Olympics Equestrian Coach and an experienced equestrian with over 15 years of experience with rescuing off-track thoroughbreds. My husband has over 12 years in the health and fitness industry. He has volunteered his time to rehabilitate  Wounded Warriors. He is also a certified Special Olympics coach and is a  2019 Special Olympics Coach of the year.  It is our passion to save  and rehabilitate forgotten horses; who are being sold to be killed, and unite them with individuals who face life struggles as well.

We are looking to raise money to help with the repair of the barn, repair the barn roof, repair of paddock fences and horse shelters. Much of this was destroyed this past year as a result of a tornado. In addition, funds will be needed to purchase special equipment to support outfitting the horses for special need equestrian riders.  Our goal is to build an indoor arena with a handicap assessable bathroom so riding therapy and equestrian strength training; core balancing exercises for students who spend most of the day in their wheel chairs. These young riders will show at local horses shows and Special Olympic Equestrian competitions. To support this dream we will need funds for a horse trailer and pick up to pull the horses and students to shows and to rescue additional horses.  A farm tractor is needed to cut the paddocks and move manure.  we feel it is important to confirm that no funds will be used for personal gain.

We already recently rescued three wonderful horses and one miniature horse! Two of these horses are certified-therapy horses and are perfect for young riders and beginners. All of our horses are rescues and our goal  is to expand and rescue as many horses as possible while providing a hobby  and educational resource for those in need.

Our vision is to provide a work-based educational and therapeutic program for special needs children.  The program will provide riding lessons, lessons to teach how to groom, feed, and clean the horses while learning how to tend and manage a barn.

We also love and appreciate our military and want to provide a place where our veterans can find stress relief by working with and riding the horses. Through the equine assistive therapeutic work, individuals can be empowered to take control to bring about positive changes in their lives no matter their struggle. Our aim is to help individuals with a range of concerns including depression, anxiety, eating disorder, post traumatic stress, autism and other health impairments.

Our parallel mission is to rescue as many horses in need as possible.  All of our horses have been rescued from kill shelters/pens. Our goal is  to continue to adopt more horses. With rescuing these lost animals comes costs associated with farriers, veterinarians, supplements, feed and hay.  Each horse needs grooming equipment, halters, fly masks, blankets and tack. We are asking for funds to support these purchases.

That's where you come in! We need your help!

Thank you in advance for all your love and support!
