Help Save Over 400 Stray Dogs

STORY/BACKGROUND
Pratima Devi has lived in a tin shack covered with old torn rugs in South Delhi's Saket neighbourhood for over 30 years.  She is a rag picker better known as “Amma” (Mother) to the locals. “I look after over 400 dogs – about 200 around my home. Others are scattered in the courtyard. My dogs never bite. They have been sterilized and vaccinated by the MCD (civic body),” Pratima said.

She left a troubled marriage. "I was married at the age of 7 to a man who was more than 10 years older than me. My husband often came home drunk and used to beat me". Pratima had 3 children with him but when they were older, she moved to Delhi and ran a popular tea-stall. She was kind to the local stray dogs and received more love from them than she ever did in her abusive marriage but then tragedy struck:

“A neighbor who owned a departmental store conspired with two policemen and burnt down my tea-stall along with my house. I was injured and many of my dogs were also burnt. They spared no one,” she recalled. She now works day and night to care for over 400 dogs. “My children do not want me to stay with them because of the dogs. And I cannot leave them. Who will take care of the dogs if I leave them,” she asked.

THIS CAMPAIGN

Pratima Devi has been a true inspiration for many people across India and around the world. Being a rag-picker and taking care of hundreds of dogs daily isn’t an easy task. Even at the age of 62, she cooks for over 400 stray dogs daily, nurses them when they're sick and takes care of them in every way possible – just like a mother!

Thousands of people have shared her story but nobody has actually helped her except for me so let's unite and continue what I have started. After 30 years of selfless work, she deserves a break. No amount is too small. Together we can give some hope to this kind lady and these beautiful dogs. Thank you.

ABOUT ME

I'm an animal rights activist from England with a popular Instagram page of over 50k followers (@a_lallie). I post about all animal rights issues on my page from animal agriculture to the fur trade to zoos to circuses to blood sports to animal testing to puppy mills to the leather industry to the plight of stray dogs. In a world with so much animal cruelty, Pratima Devi's story gave me faith in humanity.

The money donated to this campaign is being paid into Pratima's personal bank account (details in the below photo) for her to use to buy food and supplies for the dogs. I am in contact with 2 locals and a volunteer on the ground who continue to provide me with updates and new footage, which I then post to my Instagram page for all to see so that there is full transparency around this campaign. Please help me help her. Thank you.
