Sara's Fight for Complete Remission

Our friend Sara, by far one of the strongest, kindest, most genuine people you'll ever have the pleasure of knowing, has a new battle to fight...cancer.

Yup, friggen cancer. More specifically, Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia. Cancer just the same. But she's a warrior through and through! 

Sara battled through her first month of in-patient treatement at Sunnybrook, an emergency spleen rupture and ICU stay, ports, transfusions, medications, radiation, and chemotherapy.

But The next stage is a big one. She is headed to Ottawa for up to 3 months for a bone marrow transfusion. Yes Ottawa.  She was lucky enough to get a Canadian hospital, since the other hospitals are in the USA. Did you know that our Toronto (and GTA) based hospitals aren't doing bone marrow transplants or that they have closed their waiting lists? That our patients are travelling away from friends and families for the fight of their lives?!?!!? It's just crazy!!

Sara's family has been tested, and her sister Kiri is a full match - So amazing!!! Kiri and her young family live in Australia, but she too is leaving her family to travel back to Canada for her part. Within the next month, Sara will travel to Ottawa and get settled in for the next fight. She will be in Ottawa for up to 3 months, needing a full time caregiver, while her parents stay here in Toronto to care for her sweet toddler boy Caleb.

As if being away from her baby, her family and her friends is not hard enough with the enormity of the situation, the mounting costs of being away for 3 months, while still having big expenses here back in Toronto is really really daunting. While paying for an apartment, food, and transportation for 2 in Ottawa, she has to still cover home expenses, daycare costs, and everything else it takes to take care of a toddler here at home.

Many of you have asked how to help Sara during this time. She is so very very thankful for your thoughts, your prayers, your phone calls and emails.  We, as her community, are coming together to help her with covering costs as best we can, knowing that taking the financial burden off her at this time gives her peace of mind and allows her to put her energy into healing. We know we can raise this money to help her!!
