Sarah's Spinal Instability Surgery

Donation protected
Thank you for your consideration of donation to my go fund me account. I am in a position of having to reach out to kind and giving hearts to assist me with the overwhelming financial costs of out of country neurosurgery to stabalize the gross instability of my cervical spine.

Sarah’s story:

I have sustained a serious neck injury and require neurosurgery that is not avaliable to me in Canada.  I am currently bedridden and have had to close my Massage Therapy clinic, which was my source of income. I have been hospitalized several times, seen handfuls of doctors, specialists and have undergone many diagnostic tests. Primarily none of the results showed my injury until I travelled to Langley, BC and had a DMX (digital motion x-ray) of my neck. I have now been medically diagnosed with Craniocervical Syndrome.

At the end of January I went to Florida to have a upright MRI and meet Dr. Franck, who is one of the two Neurosurgeons known to do this type of cervical spine surgery for this specific injury in the world.

 The specific surgery planned:
C1-2 posterior transarticular lag screw fixation and suboccipital decompressive craniectomy and C1 undercutting laminotomy with advanced guided surgical technique and autograft and allograft fusion with adult stem cell preparation at C1-2

C4-5 lateral mass fixation fusion with vertical stabilization rods and lateral mass screws and restoration of cervical lordosis with posterior fusion with autograft and allograft adult stem cell preparation using advanced image guided techniques.

The cost of this surgery is $81 480.45 CAD and $9150 for associated costs.

I will have to have post op appointments at 2 weeks, 6 weeks, 6 months and 1 year with Dr. Franck in Clearwater, Florida. I will be wearing the hard cervical brace for 6 weeks post op 24-7 and then will be required to wear a soft cervical collar for 6 months. I will be unable to work for at least 6 months post op, possibly longer while I wait for the fusions to fully heal.

I am excited for all the possibilities that lie ahead and being able to participate in life again and enjoy each day to the fullest.

Thank you, I appreciate all your support and I will be forever grateful.

Sincerely,
Sarah Gontarek
