Sarah's campaign for THINK PACIFIC FOUNDATION

In June 2019, I will be flying out to Fiji for a month to volunteer in a government backed youth and sports development project, enriching and inspiring children living in the hardship faced in rural Fiji, many of whom were affected by Cyclone Winston in February 2016 which damaged over 200 schools. 

My volunteering project supports a small charity, Think Pacific Foundation, who work in remote villages in Fiji where over one third of children grow up in poverty and only 5% receive an early years education. As an education student, i am immensely passionate about transforming the early experiences of these children, giving them an education and childhood that all children deserve and I cannot wait to start the project with my team!  

This year, the charity is celebrating a decade of amazing work which has already improved the lives of over 20,000 children with a 40% increase in literacy being observed amongst these children. But there is still so much more to be done. 

During my month in Fiji i will be immersing myself into the local culture and living with a Fijian family. With this, i am expecting to experience a number of tough and challenging conditions allowing me to gain a deeper insight into life in the developing world and make a personal difference to children. 

Any contributions will go towards project costs, with over a third of these costs directly benefitting children and schools by replenishing school resources, provide teacher training, help to rebuild essential facilities and increase standards in education, extracurricular activities and sports. Even the smallest donations will contribute to making a huge difference to the lives of these children.
