Sangría Legibilities is a non-for-profit organization dedicated to publishing bilingual editions in parallel text of fiction and radical political texts from underrepresented communities and sensibilities in the United States.
Sangría Legibilities es una organización sin fines de lucro, creada para publicar, en edición bilingüe de páginas traducidas contrapuestas, obras narrativas y textos políticos radicales que provienen de comunidades y sensibilidades representadas de manera insuficiente en los Estados Unidos.
Sangría Legibilities is focused on finding new ways to disseminate discourses, texts, and literatures alive in the U.S. of A. We want the ways in which people come into contact with literature –workshops, book publications and launchings, discussion groups, and so on– to become approachable for all peoples instead of being aimed only at elites. By embracing multilingualism in literature and other socially relevant texts and media, we hope to foster a commitment to cultural openness, and we aim to transform readers into active translators between every language spoken in the U.S.

La Misma Nota, Forever, the first collection of short stories by Iván Monalisa Ojeda, is narrated by the transsexuals, transvestites, locas and two-spirits who roam the nights and streets of Manhattan; its bars, clubs, neighborhoods and apartments. With an exact and focused writing style, the fluidity of these stories uncovers those who, in the dangerous spaces underneath and in between the glittering façades of New York, band together under a multicolor and plurilingual flag in order to survive.
Quienes narran La misma nota, forever, primera colección de cuentos de Iván Monalisa Ojeda, son transexuales, travestis, locas y two-spirits que trabajan haciendo la calle, haciendo la noche: la de Manhattan, esa enorme brecha de bares, clubes, barrios y apartamentos. NOT IN OUR NAME: Contra la ayuda de los Estados Unidos a la masacre en Palestina/ Not in Our Name: Against U.S. Aid to the Massacre in Palestine, by varios autores / various authors
People are being massacred in Palestine with U.S. tax money and U.S. political support. It is, in fact, in our name. Last summer Sangría launched an open call through email and social media inviting people to speak up against U.S. foreign policy in Israel. In addition to this, we collected the statements, writings and speeches of various artists and public intellectuals opposed to the U.S. backed Israeli occupation of Palestine, and included the translations whenever possible. This is the collective publication of that material.
Los palestinos están siendo masacrados en nuestro nombre con el dinero de los impuestos de los Estados Unidenses y con el apoyo politico de los Estados Unidos. El verano pasado Sangría lanzó un llamado abierto por medio de correo electrónico y redes sociales invitando a alzar la voz contra la política internacional de los Estados Unidos en Israel. A Libra under the Western zodiac and a horse under the Chinese one, IVÁN MONALISA OJEDA was born in the Región de los Lagos, Southern Chile. Monalisa studied Scenic Arts at the Universidad de Chile and arrived in New York City on an autumn day in 1996. She has lived in the city since then. La Misma Nota, Forever is her first book.
Del signo Libra en el zodiaco occidental y Caballo en el chino, IVÁN MONALISA OJEDA nació en la Región de Los Lagos, sur de Chile. Estudió Artes Escénicas en la Facultad de Artes de la Universidad de Chile. Llegó a Nueva York un otoño de 1996, y desde entonces vive en esta ciudad. La misma nota, forever es su primer libro.

CLAUDIA HERNÁNDEZ was born in San Salvador, in 1975. A school teacher, she has published the short stories collections De Fronteras, Otras Ciudades, Olvida Uno and La Canción del Mar. She was awarded with the Anna Seghers Price for her outstanding artistic contribution to a more equal society. La han despedido de nuevo / They fired her again is her first bilingual book.
CLAUDIA HERNÁNDEZ nació en San Salvador, 1975. Es maestra escolar. Ha publicado los libros de cuentos De fronteras, Otras ciudades, Olvida uno y La canción del mar.
