Sanara Staff Car Crash - Families Legacy Fund

Donation protected
Update

As Owners of the business which employed the deceased and injured, we are  setting  up legacy bank accounts to be held in trust and funds will be distributed on a monthly and as needed basis for the families.  Funds will be distributed equally across the four families.

The funds will be used to support the widows and children  of the deceased, to support additional needs beyond the payments that are being issued from the employers and personal support from the business owners. Examples will be to support birthdays, holidays, school and studying needs, unforeseen medical bills, and any urgent expenses.

In the case of one family with less of a support network, and much younger children, some funds will be released in the earlier years to support urgent needs.

In the case of Carlos young man critically ill in hospital, some funds will be utilized for rehabilitation needs, however this is currently being assessed.  If not needed, the money will be used to support further education.

‘For donors wishing to support . Thank you for your kindness

A tragic car crash on Saturday morning, March 16th, suddenly took the lives of 3 of our Mayan staff, Pedro,  Samy  as well as Samuel and has left another, Carlos, fighting for his life.

(In the photo above, Pedro is in the center, with his maintenance team mates.  Samy was not there on this day)

‘We are appealing to everyone and anyone who has loved their moments at Sanará and The Real Coconut to consider adding to this appeal.  Our Sanará team is devastated  and at this time we are so grateful for your care and help as we help their wives and families.

Our Sanara team, who we consider family, have always been extremely close knit, and supportive of each other, and yet this tragedy has reinforced the understanding that while each of our internal paths to God are ones we can only walk alone, our human experience can be uplifted and transformed by the angels that surround us in our lifetimes.  Sanara is truly home to a throng of angels who are coming together to support the families of those who have passed, and to hold vigil for Carlos.

The families of those lost have a heavy road ahead to walk as they mourn their loved ones and try to rebuild their lives, and young Carlos needs all the healing love and strength that we can send to him, beyond only the medical care he is receiving.

We so love all those who make Sanara what it is…when Charlie and myself visioned the birth of Sanara in 2013, with the support of our friend, David Woolfson, we began writing the score of this symphony that we call Sanara…our team are the orchestra who perform this symphony, and add their own improvisation, their spirit, their love into this beautiful performance that you are able to experience every day.

Sanara…means ‘it will heal’.  The wounds are painful, but we know that in time, all will be as it will be…

Pedro our lead carpenter who has been with us from our early days has left young children, his wife and his mum.  He left them, driving from the village near Coba on his way to Tulum and tragically a driver ploughed into them on the wrong side of the road. The impact was massive.

Pedro has such a pure Mayan Spirit, a simple man with a sensational carpenters craft. Everything wood you saw and felt was made under his direction.

His apprentice, Samy was traveling in the car has left 5 and 3 year old daughters.

Samuel, a waiter at The Real Coconut has left behind 3 very young children and one on the way.

Young Carlos, 18,  from our kitchen, fights for his life in hospital as staff give blood and we all pray.  Our team are taking turns supporting his family in being with them  24 hrs a day, holding vigil at the hospital.

Daniella and Charlie and all the Sanará family thank you for your consideration. It is a tough moment for our extended family and our  focus is to create a sustainable legacy for the families of those that have suddenly left them with such uncertainty,  and for Carlos who has at the very minimum a monumental journey ahead.

We love you and we all thank you for your giving.

We are assessing the needs of the families and individuals involved, beyond our own support, and are looking also for ways to empower the women and children left behind. Any surplus funds will be used to support individuals in the local community who are also facing hardships
