Hello everyone! I have been offered a suprising opportunity to purchase two more San Clemente Island goats. Part of what makes this a great offer is that the location is just under two hours from where I live. Most other breeders are in other states. The two goats are does that could really help diversify the gene pool on EB Ranch.
If you didn't know, San Clemente Island goats are critically endangered, with just about 700 left world wide. One of my goals on the farm is to promote and educate people about this wonderful breed of goat. As part of my business, I make goat milk soap using milk from the San Clemente goats. This enables people to purchase a useful product made from these goats' wonderful milk. I also sell this soap at retail stores and at the farmers market. Bringing on one or two more does onto the farm will help me get more milk, which I need in my slowly growing business. This will also help with genetics and breeding so I can offer people the option to buy goats in the future to start their own herds.
While I had plans in the long run to bring more goats to the farm, all of these plans include huge amounts of travel time. With this new opportunity the travel time is nothing compared to what waits for me in the future. I also have a pretty short deadline, about two weeks or less from this posting. That is July 6th of 2017. I know that's not much time, but any little bit helps.
Please help me out if you can. I would LOVE to take advantage of this opportunity. The appreciation I have for any help runs deeply. I hope to set up a system where folks that donate get some goat milk soap back in return.
